We are seeking a full time Senior Accounting Manager to help us to elevate our finance department. The ideal candidate will help us build a finance function that achieves excellence in financial management by providing accurate, timely and useful financial information to leadership and programs and by adhering to high standard financial practices and accounting principles.  The position reports to the CFO and manages a team of six (6) employees.

 

The Senior Accounting Manager will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and ensuring financial information is complete and compliant with relevant accounting principles. Major Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with CFO, ensures a system of strong internal controls, best practices and preparation of its financial reports in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Ensures the smooth, timely and accurate operations of the accounting functions.
  • Oversees the accounting department, with direct supervision of staff noted above.
  • Manages proper financial accounting functions to assure accurate and timely recording and reporting of corporate financial information for Northeast Arc, Inc. and all affiliated companies.
  • Develops systems with the CFO and department staff to improve accounting procedures, controls, reporting and internal auditing. Develops and communicates adequate procedures, instructions, records and reports to ensure internal controls are regularly understood, tested and enforced.
  • Responsible for insurance and risk management, including timely processing of claims.
  • Plans, organizes, and coordinates the year-end close process with external auditors. Coordinates the preparation of workpapers for the annual audit, cost report, and tax filings.
  • Monitors cash flow and operating cash requirements, minimizing draws on line-of-credit.
  • Oversees preparation and submission of required vendor, property, and regulatory filings. 
  • Utilizes technology to efficiently and effectively support the department. Collaborates with trade groups and other providers to determine and implement best practices.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree (BS) in accounting or similar.  5-7 years related experience in accounting with increasing scope of responsibilities. 3 years progressive supervisory experience. Prior experience implementing new accounting software preferred. Demonstrated capability in leading and managing a diverse finance team and a practical understanding of most current management practices. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively liaise with colleagues at all levels. Outstanding computer literacy required. Ability to work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Strong management, problem solving, analytical, detail oriented and planning/organizing skills. A collaborative, flexible and team-player style, with a strong service orientation, and demonstrated willingness to share information. Prior non-profit experience is strongly preferred.
