Artisan Development Director

Sharing the Dream in Guatemala is looking to expand our Artisan Development program, and we are hiring an Artisan Development Director. This new position is responsible for providing supervision and support for the Artisan Development team and ensuring that the program goals are being advanced. This position requires a mix of strong organizational skills, the ability to lead a team, an eye for detail, interest in artisan wares and fair trade, and a mix of creativity and technical skills. The ideal person will strongly believe in the mission of Sharing the Dream in Guatemala. This position reports directly to the Sharing the Dream director in Guatemala.  

Responsibilities include:

Artisan groups:

1.     Oversee workshop preparation and presentation

2.     Oversee design process to ensure that A.D. goals are being advanced, that groups are coming up with their own designs, field support is being provided, and samples being sent out are appropriate

3.     Ensure effective communication between AD coordinator and groups, and oversee meetings between AD coordinator and groups

4.     Help to find new artisan groups and assist the AD coordinator in working with new groups

5.     Work with groups and AD coordinator to create pricing

Supervision and office

1.     Provide supervision and support for the AD team

2.     Work with in-country director and AD coordinator to create a five-year plan and update goals yearly. Work with AD coordinator on yearly artisan goals.

3.     Meet with director in Guatemala to do monthly planning and evaluation for AD team

4.     Meet with AD coordinator for monthly planning

5.     Create spec sheets for each product

6.     Take professional quality photographs of each product and create descriptions for online store

7.     Do accounting and monthly expense reports for Artisan Development program

8.     Prepare reports as needed

Shipment and Quality Control:

1.     Prepare order lists. Help to coordinate orders with groups when necessary

2.     Coordinate product delivery date with AD coordinator

3.     Oversee quality control process- reviewing products and helping to solve problems

4.     Oversee packing process

5.     Do the paperwork for shipments and ensure that shipping is the most economical and best available option

Visiting Groups:

1.     Accompany visiting groups and add to discussions as needed

Wholesale Project

1.     Manage the wholesale project

2.     Take pictures of products for wholesale catalogs and website and keep documents updated

3.     Find new clients and correspond with existing clients

Desired qualifications:

-         Strong leadership skills

-         Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal

-         Good photography skills

-         Excellent computer skills

-         Knowledge of fair trade principals

-         Creativity and knowledge of trends

-         Minimum 2 years of experience in a leadership position

-         Experience working in nonprofits

-         Understanding of Guatemalan culture

-         Preferred experience working with fair trade 

-         Background or experience in design preferred

Level of Language Proficiency

Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and verbal
