About the position: 

The Director, Operations & Change Initiatives provides leadership and support for the management and continuous improvement of JFF operations. The Director will support the Chief Operating Officer (COO) to coordinate planning, implementation, effectiveness evaluation and reporting across the organizational services teams. They will serve as a conduit between organizational services staff and program staff to ensure operations processes and systems meet the needs of program and are deeply adopted by all staff. The Director will also provide oversight to key staff within areas of operations, including special projects staff and office operations staff. 

This is a particularly exciting time for the Director, Operations & Change Initiatives to join JFF. In order to support rapid recent growth and ambitious continued growth and innovation goals, JFF has embarked on a comprehensive, externally funded initiative called RISE (Redesign, Innovate, Scale, Excel) – Up-leveling How JFF Works. RISE will improve systems and processes across all of the operations units. For the next year, the Director will have primary responsibility for ensuring coordination, tracking and successful execution of the multiple workstreams within RISE, and serve as a key business partner to leaders across JFF. 

The Director thrives on building and managing efficient and effective systems and processes and supporting others to do the same. They are an adept relationship builder, agile and able to move at speed, sustaining momentum on projects, and supporting strategic initiatives and change management to ensure JFF can meet its ambitious goals. They develop and utilize metrics to drive improvement, anticipate and navigate around obstacles, and constantly challenge themselves and others to devise scalable and efficient solutions that maximize JFF’s impact.  

This role reports to the COO and works closely with other members of organizational services and program leadership. 

What you'll do:   

Operations Leadership  

  • Coach and support staff to adopt new or revised routines and processes
  • Develop and manage dashboards and KPIs to monitor progress of operations across the organization. Provide data/metrics management and support of cross-unit program operations efforts across functions. Support the project leads in identifying, managing, tracking, and presenting data that ensures the projects meet their goals and performance objectives. 
  • Establish agendas for key leadership meetings ensuring progress and effective time utilization, and track follow-ups 
  • Provide budget management and support  
  • Other special projects as assigned 

Change Management  

  • Help envision and implement new and more effective ways of working, incorporating technology and efficient business processes in service to JFF’s mission and desired impact. 
  • Provide change management and communication support for operations initiatives to generate momentum and identify times where course corrections might be needed 
  • Conduct relevant research and analysis to inform decision making, including external benchmarking, competitive analysis, cost driver analysis, and business model assessments. 
  • Coordinate with key colleagues in Programs and Organizational Services to understand and improve connection points between program units and operations departments 
  • Serve as overall project manager role for special projects (for the next year, RISE), planning and coordinating various workstreams and ensure they are meeting deliverables on time and on budget  

Team Management  

  • Supervise several operations staff 
  • Coordinate with office managers across all 3 physical offices (Boston, D.C. and Oakland) on operations issues such as lease and supplies 
  • Collaborate with People & Culture staff on fostering an inclusive and welcoming culture and office experiences for all staff (remote or full time in the office)
