This position requires an individual who has strong organizational skills and experience developing a robust culture of teaching & learning. The selected candidate should be comfortable with identifying and pursuing creative problem solving, as well as have the ability to effectively communicate plans, needs, projects, and budgeting in a concise manner to a variety of stakeholders. We are a small core staff team that work closely to support each other’s visions, voices, and growth. The current Head of School will be helping you transition into this roll before moving into a different position at BATS Improv.


This position has specific duties that impact the entire BATS ecosystem, including working with staff and teachers on diversity-related topics.  Many responsibilities are specific to the development and implementation of a healthy teaching & learning environment. In addition, the position has responsibilities of planning and coordinating the entire schedule of courses and managing the budget for this essential wing of our organization.

  • You provide understanding of diverse student needs and appropriate accommodations
  • You look forward to innovating learning structure, style, and methodologies
  • You demonstrate implementation of best practices for safe space teaching & learning
  • You have demonstrated experience, training, and sensitivity with issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • You have at least 5 years or demonstrated equivalent experience in Education, Teaching, Administration, for example:
  • Teaching/coaching experience in adult education
  • Leadership position involving curriculum development and/or teacher supervision
  • Leadership position in a similar educational environment



Duties Related to General Day to Day Work  20%

  • Manage course scheduling in a timely manner
  • Use of project management tools 
  • Coordinate special programming (i.e. summer school, intensives, guest artists)
  • Set tone and model inclusive behaviors
  • Delegate to and support the School Administrator
  • Participate in regular staff meetings, and major community events



Duties Related to Teaching & Learning 25 %

  • Recruit, interview, and hire strong coaches and coaches in training 
  • Develop, monitor, & identify ongoing professional development needs of coaches
  • Direct constructive & strategic teacher observation and review
  • Ongoing aggregation of teacher assessments
  • Define an equitable practice for teacher assignment, abilities, & preferences 
  • Review, assess, and develop both ongoing core curricula & speciality courses
  • Align teaching and learning practices across courses 
  • Develop scaffolded education programs in tandem with EDI initiatives

 

 


Duties Related to Student Contact & Support 25%

  • Strategies to increase participation & ways to collect student evaluation 
  • Identify & remove barriers to entry for more diverse socioeconomic student representation with help from other stakeholders
  • Manage issues of equity, inclusion, and challenges in a student-centered manner and according to new guidelines (in development)
  • Develop effective differentiation strategies to support student needs & learning
  • Monitor student placement and conduct placement auditions
  • Schedule student performances liaising with production and community coordinators
  • In collaboration with Community Coordinator, develop and supervise educational community outreach programs and the Communities of Color Scholarship,
  • Develop ways to assess student interest and needs 
  • Create opportunities for more student engagement

Sales & Marketing / Business Development & Sales / Financial Management 30%

  • Tactics for increased student retention & engagement
  • Create opportunities for more student engagement
  • Monitor and manage budget, sales and revenue 
  • Leverage Communities of Color scholarship & develop ongoing tactics to bring improv education to new audiences and ensure it is more accessible to underserved minorities 
  • Business development, financial management and/or revenue generation
  • Interest in/experience of digital marketing including social media, web based and email communications 
  • Working with the MD to set and review pricing for classes and coach pay to be fiscally manageable and competitive for Bay Area
