Junior Achievement of New York (JA New York) is the local affiliate of Junior Achievement USA, the nation’s largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success.  Our experiential K-12 educational programs focus on three key content areas – financial literacy, work readiness and entrepreneurship. Since our founding in 1929, JA New York has worked to inspire young people to learn how our economy works, how to plan for their futures, understand the world of work, and live up to their full potential.

A network of over 7,500 trained business, community, and student volunteers deliver our state-of-the-art curricula in school, afterschool and in workplace settings throughout New York City, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley.

THE POSITION:

Director, Special Events Fundraising (Reports to the VP for Resource Development and Communications)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Director, Special Events Fundraising will have primary responsibility for fundraising generated by special events by overseeing a portfolio of major special events (Leadership Awards Gala and Champions Dinner, Golf Tournaments) and a program multiple of peer-to-peer events, including corporate bowl-a-thons, a fun run and other events, generating a total of $2.5+ million annually. The Director, Special Events Fundraising will be responsible for conceiving, managing and executing existing fundraising and cultivation events, while leading the development and marketing of new events to generate additional revenue. Two Managers for Special Events are direct reports and manage individual portfolios of events under the supervision of the Director.

Position Requirements:

  • Executing large and small events including selection of location, management of event details, delivery of timely reports on event progress
  • Setting, managing, time-lining and tracking a busy, yearlong calendar of events.
  • Coordinating with Special Events team the solicitation for corporate and individual sponsorships, underwriting, journal support, auction items, etc.
  • Tracking, reporting on and meeting revenue targets and solicitation plans and updating management on a timely, ongoing basis
  • Developing and maintaining accurate revenue and expense budgets for each event
  • Utilizing excellent written and interpersonal skills – being a team player, able to manage “up” as well as “down”
  • Communicating effectively with a variety of stakeholders including board members and their gatekeepers, staff and volunteers
  • Speaking effectively in public on behalf of JA
  • Utilizing donorbase/CRM tools and peer-to-peer fundraising platforms (Qgiv/Kintera) for event contact management and reporting
  • Showing a willingness to put the time in necessary to get the job done well, including working occasional evening events and (rare) weekends
  • Mentoring and coaching direct reports, interns and volunteers

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree
  • Nonprofit experience
  • 5+ years of experience in organizing and managing fundraising events

COMPENSATION: Range $75K-$80K
