Compensation: $6,000 ($1000 per month from January-June) with potential for an increase in hours, compensation and responsibilities if additional funding becomes available.

Organizational Mission:

To promote social harmony and inter-religious understanding, Interfaith Philadelphia equips individuals and communities for interfaith engagement, builds collaborative relationships, and stands in solidarity with our diverse neighbors.

About the Position:

Interfaith Philadelphia is hiring a part-time Community Organizer to support our neighborhood-level Crafting Community Project (CCP) https://www.interfaithphiladelphia.org/crafting-community in the Kensington (and surrounding neighborhoods, including Northern Liberties, Fairhill, and Port Richmond). CCP Neighborhoods have been identified based on existing partnerships, shifting demographics, and increased levels of tension around specific faith and/or cultural communities. Interfaith Philadelphia aims to partner with individuals, organizations, and religious communities in the neighborhood to increase interreligious/intercultural understanding and community wellness, and equip community members with the skills and tools they need to stand in solidarity with their neighbors who may be targeted for their religious or cultural identity.

Through CCP Interfaith Philadelphia Staff and the Community Organizer will deepen new and existing partnerships in Kensington and surrounding communities, and collaborate with these partners to offer Listening Sessions, Art Programs, and Trainings/Workshops. Listening Sessions will provide opportunities to hear the assets, needs, and concerns of community members, and respond to these by developing and offering Interfaith Art and Educational Programming. Despite the COVID-19 Pandemic we are still moving forward with this project and are hosting virtual programs and meetings until it is deemed safe to gather in-person.

This position is grant-funded through June 2021, with potential for extending the position beyond June as funds allow. It will require 10-12 hours a week and may include working some nights and weekends. The Community Organizer should live/work in Kensington or a surrounding neighborhood, and have experience leading and implementing inter-group and/or artistic community programs. This position reports to Interfaith Philadelphia’s Community Partnerships Director.
