Summary

As an integral part of the Development team in the New York office of the American Academy in Rome, the Development Coordinator is the key administrator and liaison for the Academy’s Board of Trustees and works collaboratively to drive revenue from and build relationships with the Academy’s donors. In addition this team member will participate in a range of development duties, such as helping to manage development pipelines, execute two annual fundraising appeals and draft varied donor correspondence. The Development Coordinator is also responsible for providing administrative support to the Vice President for Development and the Development department.

Supervision

This position reports to the Associate Director of Development and takes direction from members of the Development team. They also work closely with the President and Vice President for Finance and Administration on Board-related tasks.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function at a satisfactory level. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  1. Bachelor’s degree required, with study in or knowledge of one or more of the disciplines represented by the Academy preferred.
  2. A minimum 3 years of administrative or development experience, preferably at an academic or cultural institution.
  3. Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
  4. Experience working directly with boards strongly preferred, including working familiarity with board and governing procedures, documents, and best practices.
  5. Demonstrated skill to take accurate and thorough notes in wide range of meetings and discussions, including transcribing, editing, and presenting information concisely and coherently.
  6. Exceptional judgement and sensitivity in handling confidential information.
  7. Proven ability to coordinate multiple diverse projects and manage concurrent timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  8. High level of computer literacy, including proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, and Drive), and Adobe Acrobat.
  9. Ability to work some evenings and weekends for events and programs, as well as travel.
  10. Knowledge of Italian is helpful but not required.
