JOB DESCRIPTION  

The Digital Credentialing Specialist will work with the Reel Works staff on the synchronization, training and awarding of our digital credentials, also known as MediaMKRS Badges. MediaMKRS digital badges are a tool that can be used for more equitable hiring practices and serve as benchmarks to measure learning. The Digital Credentialing Specialist will be at the forefront of the badging experience for external nonprofits, colleges and employer partners. 

Tasks will include:

  • Developing and maintaining materials for current best practices and quality assurance standards for the MediaMKRS digital credentials. 
  • Coordinating with internal curriculum writers and external nonprofit/ university partners to align digital badges with curricula.
  • Engaging with various stakeholders to aid in the implementation and use of digital credentials. 
  • Designing badges with consideration for earners’ diverse racial, socio-economic, ethnic, academic, religious, and cultural backgrounds and identities.

What qualifications we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience in instructional design, educational technology, education, or a closely related field 
  • Knowledge about digital credentials
  • Familiarity with LMS systems, such as Canvas and digital badge platforms such as Badgr or Credly

What you bring to the role: 

  • An ability to communicate effectively, work independently and self-motivate in a remote work environment
  • Nimbleness when navigating new technologies. 
  • Experience in leading in person and/or remote presentations. 
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and ability to thoughtfully and accurately assess and respond to individual needs. 

Position Details: 

  • This is a freelance contract role

MISSION

For the past 20 years, Reel Works has been a leading arts organization that mentors, inspires and empowers underserved NYC youth to share their stories through filmmaking, creating a springboard to successful careers in media and beyond.  

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

MediaMKRS is a partnership between Reel Works and the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, the City University of New York, media companies and unions and to train, credential and prepare talented New Yorkers for careers in media and entertainment. 

The MediaMKRS program was born out of a vision that to address the crisis of inclusion in the media industry, we need to build a consortium of educators, industry, labor, government and philanthropy to address systemic barriers and build pathways from classrooms to careers in 

the film and television industries.  Additionally, MediaMKRS aims to provide an avenue for both traditional and non-traditional students with production experience and hands-on skills to more effectively demonstrate their skills and abilities to potential employers through digital credentials. 

 The Digital Credentialing Specialist will play an integral role in accomplishing our mission.
