GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

SEAMAAC welcomes applications for the position of Director of Health and Social Services. SEAMAAC is a nonprofit organization in Philadelphia, with the mission “To support and serve immigrants and refugees and other politically, socially and economically marginalized communities as they seek to advance the condition of their lives in the United States.” SEAMAAC envisions a strong and unified society, where immigrants and refugees work alongside other Americans to build shared political, economic and social power. POSITION SUMMARY: The primary duties of the position are to provide overall management and administration of SEAMAAC’s Health and Social Services Department including the Continuum of Care, Elders Health & Wellness, Health, Safe Families, Civic Engagement, and other programs as needed to fulfill the mission of SEAMAAC and our commitment to marginalized communities. This role involves assessing needs, designing and managing programs, grant writing, managing budgets, reporting outcomes to funders, evaluating program impacts, working in local, regional and national coalitions, developing and implementing organizational and program policies, and supervising staff and interns. The Director is responsible for ensuring that each contract is in compliance with funder requirements, and also monitor sub-grants and MOUs with partner organizations. As a senior member of the organization’s Management Team, this position is expected to work closely with SEAMAAC’s Executive Leadership Team, in coordinating and implementing the organization’s 2016 strategic plan. The Director represents the organization at community events, university lectures, and conferences. The Director provides direct supervision to Program Coordinators and Interns, and creates and supports supervision structures for Outreach staff. The Director leads advocacy and collaboration efforts focused on building access and power in Asian immigrant communities. The Director’s overall contribution to SEAMAAC includes but not limited to participating in the organization’s grant writing process, budgeting, financial reporting, program invoicing, and fundraising.


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

•     Master’s degree in social work, public health, or related field is required, with a minimum of four (4) years of experience in non-profit management.

•     A minimum of four (4) years of experience in a management role, supervising five (5) or more staff.

  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, planning, and presentation skills.
  • Experience in organizational and staff development, program development, fundraising, strategic planning, operations and financial management.
  • Knowledgeable about Philadelphia’s health & social services systems, including public assistance resources and other supports for low-income immigrants/refugees.


  • Knowledgeable about the issues facing immigrants and refugees, and Asian immigrant and refugee communities in particular.
  • Ability to handle a heavy workload, exercise discretion, maintain confidentiality, handle multiple priorities and use sound judgment.
  • Ability to analyze and solve problems.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff as well as a strong commitment to supporting the collective efforts of the team in accomplishing program objectives and goals.
  • Understanding of and commitment to SEAMAAC’s principles in regards to issues of race, class, nationality, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, and disability.
  • Ability to respectfully interact with a wide range of people in various community and professional environments including those on opposite sides of sensitive issues.
  • Bilingual candidate preferred.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  • Direct a department and programs including the Continuum of Care, Elders Health & Wellness, Health, Safe Families, and Civic Engagement Programs
  • Manage multiple short-term projects.
  • Manage and grow the department budget.

·        Write and monitor private foundation, corporate, and government (city, state, and federal) grants.

  • Serve as agency’s primary liaison for program funders and coalition partners
  • Attend interagency meetings, conferences, and trainings, as required by program funders.

·        Provide supervision to staff, interns, and volunteers.

·        Assess community needs and develop programming to meet identified needs.

·        Provide direct service to clients as needed.

·        Coordinate and implement department and organizational strategic plans.

·        Plan health fairs, community and professional workshops, conferences, and special events.

·        Lead and participate in coalitions.

·        Manage sub-contracts, letters of agreement, and memorandums of understanding with partners.

·        Lead advocacy and collaboration efforts focused on building access and power in Asian immigrant communities.

  • Recruit, supervise and provide guidance to Department Staff.
  • Complete all program reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement programs and outreach strategies.
  • Conduct staff evaluations.
  • Collaborate and participate with SEAMAAC Management Team on grant writing, agency-level planning, fundraising and staff development.
  • Supervise the facilitation of program team meetings (frequency varies depends on program), and department meetings (monthly).
  • Participate in the planning and facilitation of Management Team, All Staff, and Professional Development Meetings.
  • Flexible hours, requires some travel and evening and weekend assignments.
  • Translation/interpretation, as required.
  • And such other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

  • Actively participate in organization-wide work efforts and events.
  • May require some travel and evenings and a minimum of five (5) weekend assignments per calendar year
