Over the years, we have grown from one middle school to a network of four schools with 1,400 students in grades 5 to 12. Duties and Responsibilities

The Case Manager position is designed to encompass many aspects of students with disabilities, including, learning and instructional support, as well as supporting students to overcome social emotional barriers in and out of the classroom. This position will report to a Student Supports leader, and will perform a variety of essential responsibilities, including (but not limited to):

Direct Support and Student Learning

  • Teach Personalized Learning Centers (PLCs) for students that are assigned to your caseload. During this time:
  • Support students to achieve their functional and transitional IEPs goals (executive functioning, organization, participation, behavior, post-secondary planning, etc)
  • Coordinate any academic support and provide academic support
  • May lead Life Skills course
  • Provide instructional support/remediation, as needed, during study hall and/or as an in-class support

Special Education Case Management and Compliance

  • Serve as the case manager for up to 50 students with IEPs and 504 plans
  • Serve as the 504 coordinator for students on your caseload with 504 plans
  • Be the primary point of contact for teachers and staff members for students on your caseload
  • Develop, track data on, and train teachers on student behavior plans
  • Provide written input for student IEPs, prep students to attend and engage in their IEP meetings, and lead IEP meetings for students on your caseload
  • Report out on student progress toward their IEP goals, quarterly
  • Serve as the “owner of the IEP/504” by ensuring that all documented supports and services are implemented and provide through collaboration with teachers and teacher managers and service providers
  • Monitor student performance data on a consistent basis and intervene, as needed, for students on your caseload

Serve as a Productive Member of the Excel Community

  • Align student support services with the school’s mission and educational philosophy
  • Participate in generating and upholding Excel Staff norms
  • Provide coverage when needed
  • Follow the appropriate protocol when absent to request coverage
  • Meaningfully participate in Friday meetings, school PD and Family Conferences
  • Communicate frequently with the families of your students
  • Do whatever it takes to ensure that the mission of the school is fulfilled


  • A Bachelor’s degree and certification in Special Education are required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred;
  • A commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel’s values and educational model;
  • A commitment to addressing racial and economic inequity in education;
  • The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment;
  • The ability to work effectively in a team environment and the willingness and desire to support others in doing their best work; and
  • An openness to change, a willingness to problem-solve, and an interest in receiving feedback for continuous improvement.

Preference will be given to applicants who also:

  • Have experience in a public or charter school setting
  • Speak Spanish, Portuguese or Arabic fluently
  • Can speak to the importance of rigorous classroom instruction and culture
  • Can speak to the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion
