ABOUT CLIMATE NEXUS
Climate Nexus is a nonprofit strategic communications group dedicated to changing the conversation on climate change and clean energy solutions in the United States. Climate Nexus was created as a behind-the-scenes connector, ensuring coherent, effective climate communications and to elevate the work of a broad network of partners, including youth groups, leaders from city and state governments, and more. Climate Nexus provides pro bono support to organizations that work on climate change and clean energy and believes the “story” of the climate crisis is the foundation on which meaningful action is built. Our job is to tell that story to as many people as possible in a way that resonates with them.
We strive to create a safe, diverse, and inclusive workplace. We welcome people of all gender identities, races, sexual orientations, physical or mental abilities, ethnicities, nationalities, religions, ages, and perspectives. We believe striving for diversity, equity and inclusion is key to the fight for climate justice and the success of the climate movement itself.
ABOUT THE JOB
The person in this role will work across two teams:
The Communications Associate will be part of the media team, but also work closely with the science team. With guidance from the managers and support from their teams, the Associate will be responsible for:
Your days might include: joining our daily morning editorial meeting, working with the media and science teams to publicize the findings of a major scientific report, writing the first draft of an op-ed or a press release, using Public Relations software and social media to identify relevant journalists for projects, collaborating with partners to share information and create action plans for major media moments, building turnout for a press briefing, working with the digital team to develop infographics or videos to explain complicated subject matter, and sharing pet videos with excited co-workers.
Climate Nexus values work/life balance. Like all communications jobs, this role may require work on a media schedule–ie some weekends or evenings if the news cycle calls for it.
Must be able to work in front of a computer for long periods of time (laptop will be provided by the company, with a small budget for outfitting your workspace to your comfort if you choose to work remotely).
Flexible. Climate Nexus has Washington, D.C. and New York City offices, although our staff is still fully remote at the moment. The candidate may opt to work from the office, split time between home and the office, or work remotely from anywhere in the 50 states and District of Columbia, provided they are available during East Coast business hours. If based remotely, the position will require occasional travel for company or work events.
