Description

The New York Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (NYAC) is tasked with helping our churches build up a healthy body of Christ, enriching the lives of their members and helping to bring love, justice and hope into their communities for the transformation of those communities and the world. We are conducting a nationwide search for a Director of Communications, whose office will be based in White Plains, NY.

 

The Director of Communications will provide direct oversight of the creation and maintenance of a comprehensive communications ministry for the NYAC. Using multi-media, the Director of Communications will play an integral role in promoting NYAC within the conference and to the world. The Director will develop a strategic communications plan to tell the story of NYAC and will lead and participate in the implementation of this plan to assist the Conference, its churches and members.

 

The Director of Communications will work with the Cabinet and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions. He or she will serve as the primary media relations liaison for the NYAC and oversee the crisis communications response.

 

The Director will help churches maximize communication resources and strategies to grow membership and reach the diverse population of our conference. This includes developing internal digital and print publications, an intranet system, video projects, and completing special assignments.


We are searching for a candidate who can create rich and innovative external content that is optimized for internet search engines and social media; who understands and can provide a regular and relevant presence on social media. This includes working with IT staff on website management and techniques to increase viewership and participation.

 

The Director will develop, present and administer an annual budget for all communications strategies, and work with the CFO and finance department to understand and adhere to the NYAC budget policies and procedures

 

Candidates should possess a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent, with experience in communications and related fields including demonstrated experience in communications, mass media and journalism; knowledge of The United Methodist Church, its mission, structure and theological beliefs. Proven leadership and organizational skills in previous positions is preferred. Candidates must be willing to support and celebrate the diversity of the conference members and churches, as well as the various cultures and languages within our boundaries. Additionally, candidates should possess knowledge of current and emerging media venues, the use of studio equipment and have knowledge of the greater New York media market.
