The Youth Employment Manager is responsible for structuring and implementing employment readiness programming for GEMS members. The Youth Employment Manager will assist youth to acquire positive work habits and develop employment‐related skills, and identify their career interests through exposure to different industries, occupations, educational pathways, and the requirements for success in each of them. The Youth Employment Manager will identify and build relationships with appropriate job-readiness and vocational training programs, trade schools, internship programs, employers, etc. The Youth Employment Manager will also support with the day-to-day responsibilities and staffing of the drop-in center.

Tasks and Responsibilities: This statement of duties is for the purpose of identifying this position but it is not limited to:

Employment Readiness Programming:

· Research and develop employment readiness curriculum and programming that is responsive to member wants and needs, decreases their barriers to employment and supports them in becoming competitive with their peers.

· Facilitate weekly employment readiness groups with members, including resume and cover letter writing, job search and interview skills, budgeting, office behavior and skills, etc.; lead related events and activities.

· Meet with members to conduct employment assessments to determine their employment readiness needs and provide individual support to move them toward self-sufficiency.

· In conjunction with members’ Support Services Coordinators, utilize a team approach to provide regular check-ins, case management and advocacy.

· Provide a safe and engaging learning environment for all members.

· Develop and maintain positive relationships with members, and act as a professional role model.

· Manage and edit the Vocational Resource Binder, and all program manuals and contracts.


Community Partner Management:

· Research and develop industry knowledge in key occupations in order to ensure effective matching of candidates to available job training programs and employment opportunities.

· Develop and maintain relationships with job-readiness and vocational training programs, trade schools, internship programs, and employers; provide consistent contact and support.

· Research and compile a list of job readiness and vocational training programs that are better positioned with resources and services to support the challenges faced by members; maintain a list of open employment opportunities that members are qualified for.

· In coordination with the Training Department plan for and help facilitate trainings for community partners.

Administrative Duties:

· Attend weekly supervision meetings.

· Attend weekly all staff, case conferencing, grand rounds or professional development meetings, and retreats and trainings as needed.

· Responsible for data collection, documenting and reporting on program outputs and quality indicators into the data management system, Apricot; evaluate the effectiveness of the employment readiness programming and use results to improve.

· Responsible for member stipends related to employment readiness programming and monthly employment readiness budget; complete check requests and expense reports in a timely manner.

· Support with the day-to-day responsibilities and staffing of the drop-in center, including but not limited to, engaging with members, supporting or facilitating Youth Development groups, supporting with homework, job searches, etc., staffing the front desk, assisting with donations and basic needs, etc.


· Bachelor’s Degree required

· Minimum of four year experience planning and facilitating job readiness workshops

· Experience developing youth development, work readiness curricula and lesson plans

· Demonstrated experience working with a youth development programs and facilitating educational workshops for young people

· Ability to serve as a strong role model, provide guidance to young workers, and mediate conflict as needed

· Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a professional setting

· Passion for youth and community development

· Strong project management skills, including managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines

· Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Internet Research, and social media

· Highly motivated, with proven capacity to work independently, take initiative, and thrive in high-paced entrepreneurial environment
