ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Director of Climate & Culture oversees key elements of the school's operational activities and is responsible for matters of school, family & community engagement. The Director of School Climate & Culture will handle key non-instructional obligations so that the school leader can focus on student achievement. The Director of School Climate & Culture will report to the School Principal and work closely with the school leader on all school functions including organizing culture activities, safety procedures, restorative justice practices, and school wide PBIS with data driven results. The Director of Climate and Culture will oversee procedures for school external communications. In addition, The Director of School Climate & Culture may supervise, manage and evaluate key members of the school-based staff and leadership team in non-instructional positions.


RESPONSIBILITIES


Family & Community Engagement

  • School culturally & linguistically sustaining practices Oversight: work with the school principal and school staff to ensure all school operations, policies and practices are implemented prioritizing meeting needs based on culture, diversity and backgrounds and experiences of school students and families.
  • Supervise, collaborate and oversee all family engagement planning, communication and programming at the school.
  • Serve as liaison for students, staff and families for concerns, issues or conflicts based in school policy.
  • Supervise and oversee school implementation and practices in behavior management, discipline and all restorative justice practices.
  • Use data to inform the development of systems around positive culture and climate.
  • Gather data discipline data to be use by leadership team
  • Work collaboratively with other school leadership members to ensure effective communications to staff, parents, and the community.


School Administration:

  • Supervise, manage deans of citizenship and culture- and ensure the timely implementation of all items on monthly administrative, staff and family calendars.
  • Provide oversight and collaborate on the planning and execution of school culture events, such as school dances, field day and game night.
  • Support ensuring that student discipline records are properly maintained and updated at the school.
  • Actively serve on the school’s leadership team.


Early Warning Indicator (EWI) & Intervention Meetings

  • Oversees facilitation-(School SST) student support team meetings dedicated to identifying student needs and identifying appropriate interventions, and revisiting these students at subsequent meetings.
  • Support and oversee successful implementation of school-wide attendance and behavior programs.
  • Provide job-embedded support for multidisciplinary teacher teams responsible for implementing strategies, incentives, and interventions regarding student attendance, behavior and course performance.
  • Overseeing implementation of school discipline including but not limited to detention, ISS, OSS, and ER
  • Assist in developing behavior interventions plans
  • Oversee timely completion and accuracy of the School Safety and Discipline Report report 
  • Assist with and run suspension hearings, including creating and logging suspension notices
  • Assist with evaluation activities and data-analyses.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Belief that every student, regardless of background, can and must achieve academically at high levels
  • Acute attention to detail coupled with the ability to think and act strategically
  • Communication and management skills necessary to ensure a smooth school operation
  • Ability to create, monitor, and maintain systems that enhance organizational efficiency
  • Ability and desire to work in a fast-paced, highly disciplined, but sometimes unpredictable school environment
  • Proficiency with databases, MS Office, and other software applications
  • Willingness to work autonomously, collaboratively, and/or under the direction of school leader, as needed
  • Maturity, humility, strong work ethic, sense of humor, and roll-up-my-sleeves attitude
  • Strong belief that all students at CoaH can achieve at high levels.
  • Strong collaborative ethic toward families and staff
  • Data gathering experience preferred, particularly in an urban setting (preferred)
  • Master’s Degree in a related field (preferred)
