The P/T Safety Associate’s primary responsibility is to ensure a safe and secure environment during service hours at the NYCP headquarters location. This role is tasked with patrolling, inspecting and monitoring the premise and to help ensure the service runs smoothly where guests have a pleasant experience. The P/T Safety Associate will be responsible for guest line management, ensuring that all guests sign-in and are adhering to agency rules and regulations in an orderly fashion; address any guest disturbances and/or conflicts; ensure that guests are sober and alert when requesting services.


Duties Include:

·        Direct guests to the appropriate line depending on the services they seek, provide a safe space while guest wait, prevent anyone from entering the agency building with weapons or intoxicated.

·        Evaluates situations / emergencies and uses discretion to resolve the issues, notifies the proper authorities ie. 911 as needed or contact department supervisors for resolutions.

·        Assists staff in assessing potentially dangerous situations; intervenes to prevent situations from escalating into violence. Assists staff in crises that may require physical interventions.

·        Responsible for issuing tickets to guests during Pantry and Senior Nutrition services. 

·        Respond promptly and appropriately when staff signals for the Safety Associate; responds quickly and responsibly to any emergency or stressful situation.

·        Contacts and assists law enforcement agencies and emergency health care personnel as requested or required.

·        Continually patrol NYCP facility to ensure and promote a safe environment; includes lower level, first floor, second floor, outside the front of the building and ensure that all doors are secured and locked. 

·        Completes written detailed incident reports for every event in which physical and or verbal activity is taken in response to a client or staff situation.

·        Is responsible for adding to the list compiled of individuals that are banned from services and facility.

·        Responsible for unlocking and locking building entrances and elevators as needed.

·        Assist supervisor with conducting fire drills and safety programs.

·        Ensure that no bikes or personal bags are stored in the lower level of the building.

·        Frequently checks email in order to receive notifications of upcoming events at the beginning of shift and end of shift to outline current and future events.

·        Communicates with guests in a professional and appropriate manner.

·        Able to maintain a work environment that is marked by respect for others, values inclusiveness, builds workforce diversity, and that fosters cooperation and teamwork.

·        Assist guests with program related inquiries and guide them to the appropriate office/program for services.

·        Assist with receiving food deliveries in times of need. 

·        May be assigned additional duties with regards to NYCP special events such as Thanksgiving and Toy distribution that include but not limited to ticketing and line management and receiving deliveries.


Job Requirements:

·        Certified Security Training required

·        CPR and Narcan certification recommended

·        Conflict resolution experience required

·        Must be able to remain calm and engaging under stressful situations

·        Excellent customer service

·        Strong interpersonal skills

·        High school diploma or the equivalent is required


Work Schedule:

This is a part-time, non-exempt position; up to 28 hours/week, Saturday’s are required. The hours are 9am – 5pm, and days Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday.
