Schools That Can (STC) reimagines education through real-world learning that closes the opportunity and skills gap. We are working to realize a revitalized education to employment pathway in which all students are prepared to succeed in a rapidly changing future.

Since 2005, STC has grown from a small cluster of schools to the largest cross-sector network of urban schools in our country, reaching roughly 200 district, charter, independent, and faith-based schools across 15 cities, collectively serving over 75,000 students, roughly 80% of whom come from economically disadvantaged households. Each year, STC Newark works with faculty, staff, and students from over 40 Newark district, charter, and independent K-12 schools.

STC programs are designed to directly engage students, develop teachers, and empower leaders through real-world learning. With leaders, we help them see new practices and models in action as they work to continuously advance their school’s effectiveness on the Real-World Learning Rubric. We provide training and coaching to teachers, and support them in driving change in their schools. Finally, we engage students through hands-on learning experiences and introduce them to new pathways through career exploration and preparation programs.

STC Newark is looking for a full-time Career Skills Program Coordinator. Career Skills is STC’s signature approach designed to assist high schools in preparing students for future careers through various career exposure and skill development opportunities.

The Career Skills Program Coordinator will work directly under our Manager of Career Skills to support coordination and implementation of our Career Skills programming in Newark, especially our Bridging the Education to Employment (e2e) Gap Program. Now in its fifth year, this initiative guides high school students through career skill building activities including resume/cover letter writing, interviews, workplace readiness skills, externships/job shadow days, and possible internships. The Coordinator will support the e2e Program this winter/spring, helping to coordinate various aspects of the program in its current versions, then will launch an expanded version of the program for the 2020-2021 school year.

This is an ideal opportunity for an individual with a strong passion for advancing innovation in urban education, specifically in Newark. S/he must be extremely detail oriented with project management experience. S/he must also be responsive, highly motivated, and ideally have experience leading workshops or teaching. Major responsibilities include:
