Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum seeks a creative and energetic individual to lead Cooper Hewitt's individual major gift efforts. Duties include expanding the Museum's donor community; creating and implementing innovative strategies for securing major gifts; managing a portfolio of prospects; preparing proposals and other donor communications; organizing donor events; and overseeing Board relations. The Senior Gifts Officer supervises a team of four staff members that contributes to the advancement program and is responsible for major gifts, membership and operations activities for the Development Department. The Senior Gifts Officer partners with the Director of Corporate and Institutional Giving in designing and executing successful fundraising strategies to achieve ambitious annual fundraising goals for the Museum, and is also a member of Cooper Hewitt's senior management team.

Progressive fundraising experience, a drive to succeed, and ability to close major gifts should be demonstrated in your application. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; the ability to meet frequent/changing deadlines; and arts and humanities knowledge are essential to success. More than five years of experience in gifts fundraising at a senior level at a national organization is desired. Experience in complex higher education or a large cultural organization is preferred. The position is based in New York, NY and reports to the Director of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
