Global Scholar Program Coordinator

Join the AMP Global Youth team as a summer coordinator for our popular Global Scholar program, which prepares youth to be visionary leaders and bold changemakers around urgent global challenges. Global Scholar welcomes high school-aged students from across the US and the world.

The Coordinator oversees the general running of the program, including seminars with speakers, training workshops, and student projects. This is a great position for someone interested in global education, foreign policy, leadership, social change and youth development. Successful candidates will have experience leading similar programs, trips, clubs or courses. The ideal candidate will also be able to facilitate conversations on global issues like poverty and climate change, as be comfortable helping students practice skills like team building and public speaking.

The Coordinator will work with two of our five summer sessions, which run from late June to early August. This includes several days of facilitation and leadership training prior to the start of the program. They will work on a team including the Program Director, Trainers, Facilitators and Student Peer Mentors. *Three of our sessions are virtual, and two are half virtual, half based in Washington, D.C. We are accepting applications from candidates who can work virtually, or on the ground in DC. Please be sure to indicate your availability in your application materials.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating sessions for high school students, including learning and logistics.
  • Facilitating student learning. Coordinator will connect the dots between readings, speakers and assignments for participants through daily wrap-up conversations, small-group breakouts, informally checking in with students, and more.
  • Facilitating some sessions, for example speaker panels.
  • Facilitating student discussion groups.
  • Overseeing group social, energizing, and check-in moments.
  • Supporting students in the group environment. This might include checking in with students individually, troubleshooting issues with group dynamics, developing engaging activities that help the group build relationships and have fun, and more.
  • Coordinating technology and materials we’ll use throughout the program. This includes making sure all sessions are set up and ready to start on time, ensuring student materials and assignments are posted and accessible, etc.
  • Ensuring participants are following all safety and behavioral guidelines.

We’re looking for candidates who are:

  • Engaging, fun, and curious. Coordinators are effectively party hosts, and have a huge influence on the general energy of the group. They must bring energy, excite others, and cultivate the space.
  • Experience working with student groups, trips, camps, conferences or equivalent of young people, for example as a camp counselor, RA, etc.
  • Strong comfort handling event logistics, including speakers and technology.
  • Enough experience with international / public affairs to lead group discussions on these topics.
  • Excellent personal and communications skills. Coordinator must be flexible, patient, and able to think quickly on her/his feet.
  • Excellent attention to detail and initiative.
  • Fun and willing to serve as a mentor to very excited young leaders.
  • Coordinators working with our in-person program must be fully vaccinated and prepared to follow and enforce strict safety guidelines when engaging with our group.

Details:

This is a 5-8 week contract position during the months of June, July and August, depending on which sessions the Coordinator is assigned to (you can choose). This includes 3-4 days of training prior to the start of the program. Salary range is equivalent to $50-54,000/year, depending on experience. Room and board is included for Coordinators working with our in-person program this summer.

Global Scholar Program Facilitator

Join the AMP Global Youth team as a facilitator for our popular Global Scholar program, which prepares youth to be visionary leaders and bold changemakers around urgent global challenges. Global Scholar welcomes high school-aged students from across the US and the world.

The facilitator supports the learning journey of a cohort of 5-8 high school students, leading group discussions, supporting group projects, and building relationships and trust within the team. This is a great position for someone interested in global education, public and international affairs, youth leadership development, and social change. Successful candidates will have experience leading teams or groups.

The Facilitator will work part-time in late June, July and early August, which includes two days of facilitation training. This includes several days of facilitation and leadership training prior to the start of the program. They will work on a team including the Program Director, Trainers, Facilitators and Student Peer Mentors.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading small-group discussions and activities with a group of 5-8 students.
  • Supporting the group as they complete daily challenges and a final group project. This might include helping them brainstorm ideas, develop a workplan, execute activities, and more.
  • Fostering trust, fun, and relationships within the group.
  • Supporting overall running of the program, including helping with logistics and technology as needed.

We’re looking for candidates who have:

  • Experience working with student groups, trips, camps, conferences or equivalent.
  • Ability to get people excited, keep energy moving, and in general keep a group interested, focused and on track.
  • Enough experience with international / public affairs to lead group discussions on these topics.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Fun and willing to serve as a mentor to very excited young leaders.

Details:

This is a 5-8 week, part-time contract summer position. Facilitators work on average 15-20 hours/week, and can choose which of our five summer sessions they’d like to work with (we require a minimum of two). Facilitators receive 2-3 days of training prior to the start of the program. Salary range is equivalent to approximately $35-$40,000/year, depending on experience.
