The Individual Giving and Community Engagement Officer is responsible for inspiring, broadening, and deepening the support of individual donors to Planned Parenthood of Illinois (PPIL) particularly in the Central Illinois area. S/he executes the strategy and management of the mid-level portfolio with the responsibility of building a robust donor base at all levels of giving. This position is based in central Illinois and works under the supervision of the Director of Major and Individual Giving and closely collaborates with colleagues across a cross-functional Development, Community Engagement, Communications and Marketing team to achieve annual and multi-year goals.  

Essential Functions:

Development 50%

1. Work in collaboration with team members at both the affiliate and national office to develop cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies for the mid-level donor portfolio. 

2. Work closely with the Major Gifts Officer to build a Mid-level Giving program that serves as a donor pipeline for major gifts.

3. Supervise the collection, entry, and integrity of data related to the Mid-level Giving program, including contact notes, wealth modeling and research, biographic and demographic information, and moves tracking.

4. Manage statewide fundraising special events to meet departmental goals, including cultivation events throughout the state. 

5. Develop and implement a donor communications plan and ensure adequate reporting of communications data.

6. Perform prospect research on current and prospective donors.

7. Support collaborative fundraising efforts with Planned Parenthood Federation of America and other Planned Parenthood affiliates as needed.  

8. Maintain timely and accurate records on individual donors and potential donors to support ongoing activity and future fund raising—including plans, tracking, and reporting.

9. Establish long term goals and annual objectives for a mid-level portfolio of individuals in collaboration with the Major Gift Officer and Director of Development. Conduct regular and ongoing portfolio analysis, communicate outcomes and challenges, suggest portfolio adjustments as needed, and project results as needed for reports and planning.

10. Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward the assigned portfolio of individual prospects for mid-level gifts. Ensure that the assigned portfolio is managed with the highest professional and ethical standards.

11. Support the work of fundraising volunteers, including board members, in their cultivation, solicitation and stewardship activities. Provide committees with necessary information, reports, and internal support to ensure their success.

12. Participate in the solicitation of board members.

13. Adhere to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the AFP Code of Ethical Principles and Standards.

14. Perform other duties as assigned. 

Build Relationships and Inspire Community Engagement 20%    

15. Support and advance PPIL’s mission by managing the recruitment of a diverse set of community volunteers to serve on a community health ambassadors council (CHAC) in Central Illinois. Work in partnership with colleagues to activate CHAC members and evaluate the program.

External Affairs 30%

16. Represent PPIL at a variety of events, coalitions and committees as needed.

17. Provide support and assistance in planning, developing, producing and delivering marketing and communications materials to keep supporters and partners in Central Illinois informed an engaged.

18. Manage development, production and distribution of promotional and collateral materials.

19. Serve as liaison with vendors on event-related matters; assist with managing on-site participation and clean up for events as necessary.

Supervisor: Director of Major and Individual Giving

Status: Full-time, exempt from the overtime provisions of the wage and salary administration policies.


Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

Experience: A minimum of three years of fundraising experience

Professional qualities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. A self-motivated team player who can energize and lead both staff and volunteers. Dedication, flexibility, attention to detail and creativity a must. Familiarity with fundraising software (Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge experience strongly preferred) and proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite. Must be willing to maintain a flexible work schedule including evening and weekend hours and limited state-wide travel. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license. All candidates must have a commitment to operating goals of Planned Parenthood and possess the ability to contribute to the overall goals of the development department and organization.
