Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience and within the parameters of ACLU of Texas’s salary scale.


The ACLU of Texas seeks a highly motivated individual with a passion for civil rights and civil liberties, as well as having the initiative and energy to see projects/tasks to completion. The Volunteer Coordinator will inspire, support, and strengthen volunteer activists while implementing education and mobilization programming. The Volunteer Coordinator will help build a sustainable volunteer program by recruiting, training, and activating volunteers to promote local initiatives and participate in strategic campaigns. Additionally, the Volunteer Coordinator will identify and develop leaders in affected communities to advocate for change. The Volunteer Coordinator will be housed in the ACLU of Texas’ Dallas office, but will spend a great deal of time working in the community and surrounding areas.


RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Recruit, train, and mobilize ACLU volunteer activists. Engage with existing volunteer activists.
  • Develop meaningful, regular programming to engage ACLU volunteers and advance ACLU of Texas program goals and issue campaigns.
  • Mobilize volunteers to table, phone bank, block walk, and engage with ACLU programming.
  • Provide volunteers with information, guidance, assistance, and training.
  • Act as primary liaison between volunteers and staff.
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate “Know Your Rights” training sessions and other educational programs.
  • Oversee the Legal Observer program in the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area.
  • Represent relevant volunteer concerns to ACLU of Texas staff. Connect other departments to volunteers who can plug into their projects, ranging from letter stuffing to block walking.
  • Work with the Dallas Engagement Specialist to host quarterly events around priority issue areas to educate and mobilize volunteers.
  • Prepare quarterly reports on significant volunteer needs and accomplishments.
  • Develop, strengthen and nurture alliances with communities of color, youth groups, and other interest groups on key ACLU of Texas issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Level of Language Proficiency

Volunteer Coordinators act as a liaison between volunteer activists and the ACLU’s resources and expertise. The Volunteer Coordinator must have a strong understanding of and passion for the ACLU’s mission. To apply for this position, a candidate should have the following qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership skills to facilitate communication and collaboration with a diverse group of volunteer activists.
  • Job-related experience in managing volunteer programs, leading teams, and/or community organizing.
  • A commitment to diversity; a personal approach that values the individual and respects differences of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstance.
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously, and adapt to frequently changing demands.
  • Ability to work overtime or irregular hours, to attend evening meetings, and to travel throughout the state.
  • Ability to respect and maintain confidentiality of volunteers, clients, partners, and donors.
  • Demonstrated experience with web-based communication and organizing.
  • Demonstrated ability to be a “quick study” on a dynamic array of subjects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, database management, and various web platforms.
  • Voter Activation Network (VAN) experience desired, but not required.
  • Reliable transportation allowing easy movement and travel throughout the local community;
  • B.A. degree is desired, but not required.
  • Spanish fluency is desired, but not required.
