We have developed a nationally-recognized Community Health Worker (CHW) program, and there is growing demand from organizations across the country to replicate the model in their communities. We’re looking to hire energetic and passionate individuals to develop relationships, programs and capacity with our partner organizations. You will provide training and technical assistance to CHWs and managers across the country, and help design and develop tools and products to scale our work.

About the organization: Penn Center for Community Health Workers is a center of excellence for CHW research, patient care and dissemination. Our nationally-recognized IMPaCT CHW program, which has been featured in the New York Times, New England Journal of Medicine and Forbes Magazine, has served more than 6,000 people in Philadelphia. The program is scientifically proven to improve patients’ post-hospital primary care access, chronic disease control, and mental health while reducing hospital admissions by 30%. More than 1,000 organizations have accessed our CHW toolkit ( and we provide technical assistance to help organizations around the country create, launch and sustain effective CHW programs. Key Duties and Responsibilities:

The Training Specialist is a critical member of our Training and Technical Assistance team. (S)he will:

-Train new CHWs and Managers in healthcare and community organizations across the country to implement effective CHW programs

-Provide coaching to help CHWs excel in their jobs

-Help design and build products, including multimedia content for our online library of CHW best practices

-Organize convenings to promote shared learning and networking among partner organizations

-Design creative, interactive trainings as we continue to innovate, including adapting the model to new groups (ex: pregnant women, youth, formerly incarcerated individuals)

-Manage trainings to help health professionals understand the social determinants of health and work effectively with low-income patients

Level of Language Proficiency

Skill and Experience Required:

-Bachelor’s degree

-Knowledge of the needs of low-income individuals and families, as demonstrated through work experience in community organizing, advocacy, case management, social work, or human services

-Prior training and facilitation experience preferred

-Excellent interpersonal and written and oral communications skills

-Passion for improving the lives of low-income individuals

-Ability to thrive in a dynamic organization, where flexibility and entrepreneurial thinking are valued

Availability to travel on a regular basis (up to 60% of the year) to work on-site at partner locations
