Founded in 1999, BUILD’s mission is to use entrepreneurship to ignite the potential of youth in under-resourced communities and equip them for high school, college and career success. BUILD’s unique program offers students a four-year entrepreneurship experience designed to develop 21st Century Skills and motivate student engagement in school. Starting in 9th grade, BUILD students work with their peers and community mentors to develop business ideas, pitch to funders and launch real businesses. As students journey through high school and continue to grow their businesses, BUILD helps them explore college and career options, and assists students with the college application process. Entrepreneurship is the hook – college, career, and life success are the goals.
BUILD currently serves approximately 2,000 high school students annually at programs located in the San Francisco Bay Area, Washington DC, New York City and Boston.

Reporting to the Program Director, the College and Career Access Program Manager (CCAPM) ensures that our E4 (high school seniors) BUILD students receive support and counseling to ensure they are on track to be eligible for college admission and be a competitive college applicant. The CCAPM will also work with students whose postsecondary plans include alternative paths to college, helping them be strongly positioned to enter the workforce after high school. The CCAPM will establish and leverage strategic partners to achieve these goals. The CCAPM will act as an advisor to BUILD Boston’s program managers as they work to ensure that all students are on track to meet high school graduation, college eligibility and other post-secondary requirements. The CCAPM also serves as a college and career resource to BUILD alumni (high school graduates), connecting them to resources such as BUILD scholarship funds, corporate partner internships and mentoring opportunities.

College and Career Development
- Connect students to strategic partners who can provide key college and career resources. Directly support students when they are not able to receive all the needed support and resources from these partners. This support can include:
- Creation of college, internship and job opening lists and best fit options
- College, financial aid, internship and job application processes
- Crafting a compelling college essay
- Researching postsecondary and vocational interests
- Help plan and facilitate visits to college campuses and from college admissions, career exploration representatives, and guest speakers
- Setting realistic college and career goals and developing a plan to achieve them
Program Design and Implementation
- Curate a set of external resources and build strategic partnerships to support students, parents and alumni in their postsecondary plans. These partnerships to include :
- college access/persistence and vocational community based organizations
- scholarship programs
- internship opportunities
- career readiness experts
- Utilize mentors and other volunteers to support program and events
- Develop and implement an alumni engagement and support plan in coordination with the National Program Director and relevant national and regional staff
- Ensure students and alumni apply to BUILD and other scholarship fund opportunities
- Contribute to program curriculum
- Collaborate with Student Experience Manager for program design, and student recruitment and retention
Execute Data Tracking and Management
- Evaluate students’ abilities and interest through career assessments, aptitude assessments, check-ins, interviews, and individual planning
- Use the Salesforce platform to track relevant college and career program data
- Evaluate data to identify trends to implement program improvements
- Bachelor’s degree or transferable life experience
- Three years’ success working with high school aged youth from under-resourced communities
- Three years’ successful track record of supporting others in their college and career journeys
- Understanding of the higher education and vocational ecosystems
- Ability to develop and implement programs, working independently as well as in collaboration
- Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships that attain shared goals
- Knowledge of the Greater Boston area, esp. the higher education and career spaces, strongly preferred
- Spanish fluency a plus

- Location: Boston (currently BUILD is operating fully virtual during the COVID-19 health emergency)
- Typical program operation hours are Monday – Friday, approximately 10:00am – 6:00pm; Friday’s office time is flexible and can be earlier. Additional morning, evening and weekend hours are required to fulfill the duties of this position.
- Frequent travel between local sites is required. Employees must provide their own vehicle for transportation or travel by public transportation, must have a valid license and proof of insurance required. Work-related travel beyond the normal commute will be reimbursed.
- Occasional extended, overnight travel with students may be required during the year for college visits and other activities; Occasional overnight travel for BUILD staff retreats also may be required.
