In this exciting time of growth for the Chicago region, the Manager of Annual Giving will support Bottom Line’s local efforts to engage stakeholders across Chicago to raise the funding and resources needed to help students get into college, graduate and go far. In FY19, Bottom Line’s fundraising goal for Chicago is $2.6M. We seek to grow every year to meet the demand for our programs across our community. The Manager of Annual Giving is a key part of the execution of the local strategy to continue our expansion.
Reporting directly to the Managing Director of Development, a successful Manager of Annual Giving will be able to balance one-on-one fundraising with an active events strategy. The ideal candidate is a great relationship builder and understands how to motivate donors to give generously to Bottom Line and connect us to other prospects and opportunities. They create a great donor experiences by planning both large and small fundraising events. They are a persuasive and thorough communicator who is effective in written and verbal form, as well as in formal and informal settings. They have strong time- and project-management skills and can not only balance a fast-paced workload schedule, but also support the Head of Development and Executive Director with their workload. They are extremely detail-oriented, reliable and accurate. They are a self-starter who possesses good judgment. They are able to develop in and adapt to a growing and changing organization.
- Manage a portfolio of 50 potential and existing individual and corporate donors most of whom are giving or have the capacity to give $1K - $10K annually, providing strong engagement opportunities and proper stewardship
- Secure and execute strong face-to-face meetings with donors and prospects
- Continue to replenish the pipeline by surfacing and researching qualified individual, corporate and foundation donor prospects
- Maintain donor and opportunity information in Salesforce system
- In partnership with the Managing Director of Development, plan and execute the Annual Spring Dinner. Responsibilities include:
- Assist in monitoring a detailed 9-month event plan that includes goals, who needs to be involved and in what way, all event logistics, a communications plan, and a time-line for execution
- Assist with managing Progress to Goal reporting for the event in terms of revenue, guest engagement and other critical metrics
- Help manage relationships and coordinate the work of external event vendor(s)
- Be involved with event programming, including determining key messages, identifying and coordinating speakers, and drafting content
- Plan and execute additional key cultivation and fundraising events, including:
- Chicago Marathon: Oversee Bottom Line’s participation in the Chicago and support runners who are raising funds on behalf of Bottom Line Chicago. Responsible for organizing Marathon Team activities and maximizing fundraising.
- Emerging Leadership Council: Support two Emerging Leadership Council fundraising events per year.
- Cultivation Events: Support additional events related to cultivating the corporate, foundation and individual community
Stakeholder Engagement and Leadership Groups:
- Coordinate outreach to small gift donors through specific campaigns throughout the year, including Giving Tuesday and the Marathon
- Manage the Chicago stakeholder contact list; ensuring appropriate contact throughout the year
- Serve as staff liaison to the Emerging Leaders Council,a volunteer group of young professionals
- Respond to Chicago contacts who have an interest in learning how to get involved with Bottom Line
Marketing & External Relations:
- Attend external events on behalf of Bottom Line to recruit volunteers and Emerging Leadership Council members
- In collaboration with the Manager of Communications, distribute regular donor communications using Constant Contact
- Help coordinate site visits and meetings for interested visitors
- Working with the Manager of Communications, assist in managing social media posts and writing and creating marketing and event collateral
- Contribute to the overall goals of the Development department by working collaboratively with colleagues on the creation and execution of the annual fundraising plan
- Advance Bottom Line’s mission and brand
- Maintain a “students first” perspective, actively building connections with colleagues on the Program team to build understanding of each other’s work, and more importantly, serve as the best possible advocate for our students and mission
- Work collaboratively with the National office and other regions on shared projects and opportunities relevant to events and donor communications
- Support other Development Team and/or Chicago Leadership Team projects as needed
- Support planning and execution of Access and Success Program events, including outreach to and management of volunteers

- 2 - 5 years of prior development experience (in the Chicago metro area preferred)
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, as well as with donor databases such as Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge, or e-Tapestry
- Bachelor’s degree and work authorization required
