Title:                Staff Accountant  

Program:         Finance

Overall Responsibilities:

We are currently seeking an experienced, qualified professional for the position of Staff Accountant in our Fiscal Department. The Staff Accountant will report to the Accounting Manager and will be responsible for monthly financial reporting, analyses and associated journal entries for the Workforce Development, as well as for our unfunded programs and departments. S/he will perform other critical tasks such as reconciling all associated general ledger accounts, monitoring the assignment and use of budget codes, participating in the annual budget process, audit preparation and tax return filings.

The Staff Accountant specific focus will be on Project Renewal’s Workforce Development, City Beet Kitchens and the Culinary Arts Training programs and our nongovernment funded programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties of the Staff Accountant include but are not limited to the following activities:

·      Prepare WEX and Enterprise invoices and allocation for approval

·      Enter City Beets Kitchen sales invoices and apply payments to customer accounts

·      Prepare bank reconciliations

·      Reconcile contributions with development department

·      Reconcile balance sheet accounts

·      Assist audit schedules for fiscal and calendar year end audits

·      Perform month-end accounting close functions, including journal entries, reconciliations, and analysis

·      Prepare budget vs. actual variance reports, providing follow-up and documentation for variances

·      Provide cross-functional backup to other accounting and management functions as needed

·      Work collaboratively with managers and accounting/financial team to improve the utilization of financial data for management decision-making

·      Participate in special projects to support management’s need for financial statement analysis and process improvement projects

·      Undertakes special projects as assigned

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • 3 years or more experience in general ledger accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis
  • Knowledge of general accounting and accounting control procedures
  • Experience with non-profit organizations required
  • Environment required working knowledge of accounting software, preferably Abila/MIP & Intacct
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; advanced proficiency in Excel.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to transfer learning, knowledge & skills across multiple projects
  • Self-starter with proven ability to establish and meet goals and objectives
  • Ability to thrive under pressure of deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required in order to effectively interact and clearly communicate with individuals at all levels in the organization
  • Ability to work with large amounts of detailed data and translate data into meaningful information
  • Ability to adapt to cyclical workload, including extended work hours during peak reporting times
