Save The Bay seeks a multi-faceted Communications Specialist with excellent written communications (editorial, advocacy and fundraising), social media, public relations and project management skills to support the Development and Communications Department. The Communications Specialist will partner with fundraising, restoration and policy teams to plan and develop communications strategies that support all aspects of the organization’s work.

The Communications Specialist reports to the Deputy Director of Communications and Digital Fundraising and must have a positive, passionate and mission-driven attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with fundraising and program teams, create and implement a quarterly content plan that effectively communicates and supports current and future campaigns across all channels.
  • Oversee editorial calendar and develop content with internal teams; this includes SEO content stories focused around brand-related keywords.
  • Administer all social media accounts and own content production and management.
  • Moderate and drive conversations on social platforms with support from program and policy teams.
  • Generate analytical reports for social media performance and website traffic; interpret and use results to evolve strategies that drive measurable action.
  • Develop copy and content (editorial and fundraising) for emails, website, blog, social media, program collateral, events and other marketing-related needs.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Support and work closely with the Graphic and Website designer to update the website, distribute emails through Pardot and other tasks as needed.
  • Create media rich content that tells engaging stories across various platforms; experience with video editing a plus.
  • Support activities related to Bay Day, including working with lead sponsors to build and execute custom communications plans and social media campaigns.
  • Handle PR inquiries; write press releases and OpEds, pitch and place stories as needed.
  • Support fundraising campaigns and events as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in marketing/communications, agency or in-house with some nonprofit.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism or related work experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to communicate and collaborate effectively.
  • Operate under a sense of urgency, meeting deadlines, and seeing projects through to completion.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn).
  • Photo editing and video production skills – Adobe Suite and Final Cut Pro an added plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and Office and Adobe Suite; knowledge of Co-Schedule, Salesforce and Pardot are an added bonus.
  • Clean background check.
  • Enthusiasm for Save The Bay’s mission and programs.
