ENVIRONMENTAL TRANSPORTATION ANALYST
The Northeast States for Coordinated Air Use Management (NESCAUM) is seeking candidates for a full-time position to provide technical analysis on clean vehicle and fuel programs in the Northeast. The selected candidate will conduct research and analysis on an array of topics such as future demand for advanced vehicles and clean fuels; technology potential of future vehicle powertrain and fuel pathways and scenarios that involve battery electric, hydrogen fuel cell, biofuels, and clean diesel systems; electric vehicle deployment strategies based on state, national and international policies; and regulatory design, air quality impacts, greenhouse gas and life cycle emissions, and cost-effectiveness of policies to promote transportation electrification.
Responsibilities will also include developing and managing projects, coordinating with staff from state and federal agencies, the private sector, industry experts and environmental advocacy organizations, leading stakeholder groups, reviewing and commenting on federal and state regulatory proposals, writing and editing a variety of other documents, and representing NESCAUM at meetings and conferences. Some travel is required.
The position requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or a closely related discipline, and at least five years of relevant experience working on advanced motor vehicle technology and policy. An advanced degree may be substituted for up to three years of experience. Applicants should have strong technical research, analytical and quantitative skills, be highly organized, detailed-oriented, and have strong oral and written communication skills to explain complex technical and analytical information in a clear and understandable way. The ideal candidate will have a passion for protecting the environment and public health and be a creative, self-starter capable of working both independently and as part of a team.
NESCAUM is a nonprofit association of air pollution control agencies in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. NESCAUM serves as a technical and policy advisor to its members on air pollution, climate, and energy issues of regional concern in the Northeast and represents the states in regional, national and international forums. NESCAUM has a small staff of professionals with expertise in science, technology and policy and is governed by a Board of Directors composed of the lead state air quality officials in the eight member states.
