Position Summary

Reporting directly to the Director of Major Gifts, and with a direct relationship with the Chief Development and Communications Officer, the Development Associate works collaboratively with the entire Fund Development team to further the fundraising efforts of JCCA. The Development Program Associate must be creative and have knowledge of working within a nonprofit environment, as well as a strong foundational understanding of fundraising protocol and practice. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a balance among multiple, competing priorities. The Development Program Associate will have the ability to work independently on projects, from conception to completion, and must be able to work under pressure at times handling a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion.

Job Responsibilities

  • Supports the work of the Director of Major Gifts and collaborates on projects related to identifying new donors, re-establishing relationships with lapsed donors and cultivating a robust cadre of prospective donors for our pipeline.
  • In conjunction with Director of Major Gifts, support efforts of the newly-created Young Leadership Board: event planning, site visit coordination, and volunteer project management.
  • Conducts research on high net worth prospects, family foundations, and keeps abreast of relevant topics as related to child welfare and philanthropy.
  • Works to develop a personal portfolio of donors with an eye towards moving them through moves management process.
  • Prepares acknowledgement letters and other correspondence with donors and partners to ensure thorough, timely and personalized donor recognition and appreciation.
  • Participates in design of and prepares printed materials for donor meetings, Board and committee meetings, and other donor correspondence.
  • Assists as necessary with events.
  • As a member of the Communications and Development team, collaborates as necessary with the Marketing/Communications and Development colleagues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred. Associate’s degree required
  • Work experience: minimum 4 years’ experience working in a development or fundraising environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), some knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or a similar donor database, Adobe Acrobat, and Social Media web platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, donors, board members, external partners and donors.
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated proactive approaches to problem-solving with strong decision-making capability.
  • Highly resourceful team-player, with the ability to also be extremely effective independently.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:

  • Approximately 80% sitting , 20% standing
  • Normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination
  • General mobility in and out of and throughout multi-floor office buildings
  • Hybrid work model - remote days
