Who we are

All Out is a global movement for love and equality. Our mission is to build a world where no person will have to sacrifice family or freedom, safety or dignity, because of who they are or who they love.

By mobilising thousands of people around the world at key moments of crisis and opportunity, we are bringing people power to the movement for equality at an unprecedented rate. We use creative campaigning tactics – both online and offline – to capture global attention around the fight for the rights of lesbian, gay, bi, and trans people.

Who we are hiring

We're hiring a Full Stack Developer to help improve our digital campaigning platform, which is the core tool behind our day-to-day work. We are looking for a candidate who's familiar with the technology we use – more details below – and is excited to apply their technical skills to advance digital campaigning and LGBT rights globally.

The person in this role will be All Out's only engineer, which means they must be completely self-sufficient.

This is a remote position, and can be based anywhere in the world (with a strong preference for the timezones between GMT-6 to GMT+1, that is, anywhere from Mexico City to Abuja).

In this position, you will:

  • Develop and code new features for our website and campaigning platform, working in close coordination and communicating effectively with our Campaigns Team;
  • Work both independently and cooperatively, proactively proposing improvements to our campaigning platform and tech infrastructure;
  • Write maintainable and elegant code that’s easy to read and update;
  • Test the code you write for reliability and robustness;
  • Fix software bugs;
  • Help foster and drive a culture of innovation, testing, learning, and optimisation;
  • Help administer our continuous pipeline of tech requests and projects.

Essential skills

Technical skills

  • Mastery of cross-browser and cross-platform friendly HTML, CSS/LESS, JavaScript, including the jQuery library;
  • Experience building and maintaining a Django based site with Python;
  • Experience using Git for version control through GitHub;
  • Ability to work across various APIs, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as the ability to quickly learn new ones;
  • Knowledge of best practices for responsive design and mobile optimisation, building user interfaces that are beautiful and intuitive to use.

Organisational fit

  • A commitment to strengthening the voice of LGBT people as a path toward progressive change;
  • Ability to have fruitful conversations about technology with non-technical people;
  • Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work effectively with a diverse set of people of different nationalities and cultural backgrounds;
  • Ability to travel internationally at least once a year;
  • Fluency in verbal and written English.

Desirable skills

The ideal candidate will also have some (or all!) of the following skills:

  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages;
  • Experience with nonprofit CRM solutions (ActionKit preferred);
  • Experience with MySQL or other SQL-based relational databases for web application data storage;
  • Experience with object-oriented PHP, including familiarity with PHP-driven CMS platforms (Drupal highly preferred);
  • Experience with campaigning, advocacy, or non-profits;
  • Familiarity with the business and campaigning models of big digital social change organisations and platforms;
  • Prior experience working on a remote team;
  • Experience living or working in multiple regions of the world;
  • Fluency in at least one non-English language.
