Description

Are you interested in working with at-risk youth, exploring, and teaching about the outdoors? If so, come work with the staff at the Outdoor Education Center of For Love of Children for a summer of outdoor adventure! The Outdoor Education Center (OEC) is seeking qualified individuals to teach outdoor education, teambuilding, communication, and nature appreciation to youth. Our staff will have the opportunity to facilitate low and high ropes courses, lead outdoor adventure activities, and implement environmental education curriculum.


Individual Responsibilities:

Participate in staff training, June 5 – June 16, 2017

Serve as a leader and mentor for all participants

  •  primarily youth ages 10-16

Instruct groups of ten to fourteen in outdoor, environmental and adventure education classes as well as overnights, including:

  • High and Low ropes course facilitation
  • Canoeing trips
  • Recycling and Composting
  • Basic Survival Skills
  • Watershed and local ecology studies
  • Manage physical and emotional safety of participants: maintain and encourage a safe environment


Cooperative Staff Responsibilities

  • Lead evening activities
  •  Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Co-facilitate with other counselors
  •  Maintain positive team environment 


Qualifications:

  • Related work experience
  • Ability to work in all kinds of weather
  • Desire to work with youth in an outdoor setting
  • Sincere interest in creating a learning environment
  • Experience with teambuilding, ropes/challenge courses and adventure/ environmental education is a plus

Benefits

Summer Associate (SA) Volunteer Criteria

  • SA must be at least 18 years of age at the time of placement
  • SA must not be listed on the National Sex Offenders Public Registry
  • SA must commit and serve on a full-time basis for 10 weeks, a minimum of 35 hours per week
  • SA do not receive any person/medical days off
  • SA may have outside employment during the project period (cannot exceed 20 hours per week)
  • SA can do DIRECT SERVICE!
