The Internship & Career Coordinator for St. Nicks Alliance Division of Youth and Education Services works at our “Learning to Work for Transfer Schools” program in partnership with the Department of Education at Bushwick Community High School (BCHS). St. Nicks Alliance has joined the creative, supportive, and challenging environment of BCHS to assist the school in directing youth towards positive behaviors, re-engaging students as learners, and connecting young people with a positive academic and post-secondary plan for their future. The Learning to Work program provides internships, work readiness workshops, college preparation, social work services, and attendance support to over 200 students annually. S/he will be serving youth between the ages of 17 to 21. An integral part of the school, LTW provides paid internships, case management, college and career assistance, and social work services for the “over-age, under-credited” student population. The Internship & Career Coordinator will also help develop internship opportunities within the division’s network of high school age programming aimed at increasing graduation rates and post-secondary readiness.

Responsibilities Include but are not limited to:

  • Recruit, place, and support 40-50 interns working 10-15 hours per week
  • Develop a variety of worksites willing to host interns and capable of providing a valuable work experience
  • Establish and maintain strong working relationships with worksites and supervisors, actively monitoring internship experiences
  • Facilitate weekly seminars for interns focusing on workplace skills and career readiness
  • Provide individual support to interns and other students seeking job search assistance or career-related opportunities
  • Ensure all internship-related paperwork is complete, accurate, submitted, and approved in a timely fashion
  • Actively collaborate with program and school colleagues to support student success
  • Utilize data system to track students
  • Plan career-related speakers and trips
  • Collaborate with other teen programs around career and internship-related programs andservices

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree
  • Minimum two years experience working with 17-21 year olds
  • Strong youth engagement and assessment skills
  • Strong communication, decision-making and writing skills
  • Experience with classroom teaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively with our DOE partner school and as part of a high functioning team of five staff members
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to develop and maintain partnerships
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and be proactive
  • A genuine enthusiasm for developing professional skills through training opportunities, observation, coaching and feedback
