The Communications/Marketing Assistant (CMA) implements SCDAA communications and marketing strategies in order to strengthen the organization’s engagement with its members, the SCD community and the public at large. The CMA ensures that the organizational vision and values are successfully expressed and integrated across all SCDAA communication channels - including print and online publications, web and social media and mass email systems. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications and in cooperation with National Staff and leadership, the CMA will also provide administrative support to ensure that the National Office is operating at optimal capacity.  

Responsibilities – Marketing & Communications

  • Manages social media platforms, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram using platforms like DrumUp and Hootsuite, including curating content and tracking metrics
  • Oversees the e-store, including fulfilling orders and maintaining inventory, creating marketing strategy for products
  • Assists the director of communications with media outreach, disseminating press releases and media advisories
  • Assist the director with providing communications and marketing toolkits for chapters
  • Assists with updating website using content management system
  • Assists with drafting weekly eblast by gathering content and images, using Constant Contact
  • Maintains a photo library
  • Assists the department and staff with community outreach and marketing for SCDAA events and activities
  • Other duties as assigned

Responsibilities - Administrative Support

  • Schedule meetings and appointments
  • Organize the office layout and order stationery and equipment
  • Maintain the office condition and arrange necessary repairs
  •  Organize office operations and procedures         
  • Provide general support to visitors         
  • Address employees queries regarding office management issues (e.g. stationery, hardware and travel arrangements)
  • Lead or assist in planning of in-house or off-site activities, like parties, celebrations and conferences
  • Serve as the point person for office manager duties including: Maintenance, Mailing, Supplies, Equipment
  • Provide ancillary support to E-Store Fulfillment
  • Provide logistical and ancillary support to special events, fundraising and development activities.



  • 3-5 years of experience in a communications role at a nonprofit organization
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism
  • Experience managing social media platforms and updating websites
  • Strong communicator and solid writer
