Founded in 2000, NOCCS is a public charter school dedicated to helping children become thoughtful, informed, and inquisitive citizens. NOCCS is a vibrant, diverse learning community driven by respect for each child’s unique intelligence and history. The school’s dynamic and challenging educational approach deepens the intellectual and social capacities of each child.


Now in its Fifth charter term, NOCCS enrolls 180 students in Kindergarten through fifth Grade. Located adjacent to Linden Park in the Longfellow neighborhood of North Oakland, the school’s facilities include an art studio, multipurpose room, learning hub (resource room), music/dance room, garden and play yard. Our model includes specialists in Art and Music, integrated Response to Intervention / Special Education and a Teacher Intern Program.

Positions Available for the 2021-22 School Year


Assistant Teacher (multiple classrooms)

We seek an assistant teacher to support in the learning all core subjects (ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science / STEAM) in multiple classes of approximately 25 students. Social Studies and Science are taught via in-depth and often arts-integrated units. The assistant teacher collaborates with the lead teachers, including the lead special education teacher. The assistant teacher helps in whole class instruction and frequently runs either small groups or individualized learning conferences. Additionally, the assistant teacher is a member of the After School (Seedlings/Roots) team, and co-facilitates extended day programming.


Position Requirements


  • Interest in working with elementary aged children to support them academically and socio-emotionally
  • Interest and skill in working as part of a team to develop and facilitate engaging and enriching after school programming
  • Interest in working in a school community with a high degree of parent/family participation.
  • Commitment and ability to participate in school-wide initiatives
  • Interest in Restorative Justice learning and practices


Desired but not Required

  • College Degree
  • Bilingual (Spanish, Arabic, Tigrinya, etc.)
  • We are strongly committed to hiring a diverse and multicultural staff and strongly encourage candidates of color to apply
  • Experience with and/or interest in blended learning and/or technology integration

 

Time Commitment

  • 40 hours per week
  • 20 days paid vacation including school holidays.
