Position: College and Career Manager

Details: Horton’s Kids is seeking a College and Career Manager to support the development and implementation of its College and Career Readiness program. This is a critical position that will ensure every graduating Horton’s Kids participant has an action-oriented post-secondary plan that prepares them for success in college, career and life.

The College and Career Readiness program enlists volunteer college and career coaches to build relationships with youth and act as personalized support to prepare roughly 50 youth in grades 8-12 with staying on track to meet requirements for grade promotion and graduation and having a viable post-secondary plan in place following high school. This position will coordinate with other program staff, including case managers and the older youth education manager, to mitigate challenges and provide customized supports to youth. It will also support volunteer coaches and students by acting as a liaison and resource expert.

Reporting directly to the Deputy Director and coordinating closely with other program staff, this position oversees the College and Career Readiness programs, which take place in the afternoons, evenings and some weekends throughout the year. Additionally, this position will support the broader goals of the organization, particularly with regard to education, youth development, enrichment, health & basic needs.

Core responsibilities of this position include:


  1. Program Management: Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of the college and career readiness program for up to 50 students in grades 8-12 annually.
  2. Create tools and resources to support volunteer coaches, case managers, other staff, and parents in supporting students
  3. Develop systems to facilitate focused and productive working sessions for students with their college and career coaches.
  4. Create a system for tracking and sharing the progress of youth toward achieving their goals and clearly identifying nest steps
  5. Organize, plan and implement regular opportunities for youth to be exposed to a variety of colleges/universities, job training programs, and career pathways

e.      Coordinate with other staff members, in particular case managers and mental health partners, to ensure participants receive personalized, comprehensive, and effective interventions

  1. Identify key performance indicators to measure the success of the program, gather relevant data, and identify opportunities for continual improvement


2.      Volunteer Management: Provide regular, ongoing support for current and prospective volunteers for the College and Career Readiness program

a.      Create and facilitate trainings for students and volunteers about the college and career program

b.      Create opportunities for volunteers and youth to develop meaningful relationships

c.      Facilitate and monitor the pairings of college and career coaches and students

d.      Regularly solicit feedback from students and volunteers to proactively identify and address issues and ensure a quality program for every student


3.      Relationship Building: Work closely with individual volunteers, corporations, schools, training programs, institutions of higher educations, and others to support the college and career exploration for students.

a.      Develop meaningful relationships with youth and their families

b.      Serve as a liaison between Horton’s Kids staff, volunteers, schools, students and families to support the successful planning and implementation of post-secondary plans

c.      Identify and cultivate potential corporate, higher education, and job training program partners that can provide youth with opportunities to learn about different opportunities and/or provide pathways to post-secondary success

d.      Represent the organization at external events


Qualifications:

·        At least two years teaching or college/career counseling in a secondary setting

·        Experience with college and career readiness programs

·        Demonstrated success with working with high-risk students who come from high poverty, urban backgrounds

·        Strong behavior management skills,

·        Ability to form lasting relationships with both students and families

·        Proven track record of supporting successful outcomes for students who are below grade level

·        Demonstrated commitment to racial equity and social justice for children and youth

·        Success in taking ownership of a long-term project – from envisioning impact, to identifying strategies to taking the necessary steps to achieve the intended outcome

·        Ability to work independently as well as in teams

·        Proven track record of meeting deadlines consistently

·        Strong verbal and written communication skills

·        Extensive project management experience with the ability to prioritize multiple projects

·        A driver’s license and comfort with driving youth participants in either 8 or 15 passenger van

·        Availability to work evenings during after-school programming (4:00pm - 8:30pm)

·        Availability to work 2 weekend days per month to staff weekend
