ABOUT SEADC

Southeast Asian Development Center (SEADC) mission is to foster a healthy, thriving, and self-sufficient Southeast Asian American community.

Founded in 1977 San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, the Southeast Asian Development Center, formerly Vietnamese Youth Development Center (VYDC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to lifting children, youth and families from Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam out of poverty.  Our services are structured around providing low-income and vulnerable Southeast Asian Americans with basic needs and skills critical to building successful futures. We provide jobs, academic support, language service, health, and wellness, promote cultural resiliency and social guidance.

The Youth Development department goal is to prepare youth in grades kindergarten through high school to be college and work ready.  The department’s programs include daily out of school time program activities for K-12 graders focusing on tutoring, homework support, life skills and enriching social/cultural activities, teen leadership development activities, career exploration and job placements.


POSITION SUMMARY

The Program Assistant primary responsibilities are to assist with preparing and facilitating workshops focusing on academic, life skills, health, and enriching activities of the Center year-round and during school breaks.  Workshops and activities will be conducted on site at our Center, and at off-site locations. The Program Assistant supports SEADC youth participants with homework, tutoring, social and cultural activities in a supportive learning environment.  They will also work closely with the Youth Development Program Manager to update files, participant enrollments, volunteer forms and youth intern forms, and other assigned duties.

The Program Assistant must be dedicated to supporting at-risk youth as life-long learners and can promote our youth’s strengths to prepare them to be college bound.  They are a fast learner, able to adapt to situations and can work independently and within a team.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for inputting attendance and client data into databases.
  • Support with creating program-related demographic reports.
  • Responsible for cleaning and updating online and hard copy files and documentation.
  • Create outreach and recruitment fliers and materials.
  • Support specialist with gathering materials for events and projects.
  • Supporting with direct service when needed – Homework help/Tutoring, Classroom Management.
  • Assisting K-8 activities and homework help.
  • Due to COVID-19, all staff are working remotely and limited in-person sessions; due to community needs, all staff will be required to support direct programming such as youth engagement in-person at learning hubs, conducting bi-weekly check-in phone calls, distributing food and PPE and or assisting in-person clients to access to COVID-19 testing and other needed client support.
  • Assist supervising volunteers.
  • Attend agency events and meetings, team meetings and training. 
  • Attend funder required training. 
  • Other duties assigned by Direct Supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS AND POSITION COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum two-year college with two-year work experience with clients from low-Income communities.
  • Strong knowledge of reading, writing and math. 
  • Able to lead small groups of students with homework support. 
  • Effectively exercise behavior management skills. 
  •   Provide strong mentorship and guidance. 
  • Demonstrate compassion, patience, reliability and professionalism. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Experience working with diverse youth from a range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Knowledge of youth development is a plus. 
  • Bilingual in a Southeast Asian language (Cambodian, Lao or Vietnamese) is a plus. 
  •   A passion for SEADC mission.   
  • Fingerprinting and TB background checks required.

Salary

Pay range $19.00 - $21.00 per hour. Part-time, Non-Exempt.
