Rosie’s Place, a sanctuary for poor and homeless women, offers emergency and long-term assistance to women who have nowhere else to turn. Founded in 1974, Rosie’s Place welcomes each guest with respect and unconditional love. Rosie’s Place accepts no government funds and relies instead on committed volunteers and private supporters to accomplish its effective and innovative work.

OPPORTUNITY:

Provide a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for guests and visitors entering Rosie’s Place and to act as an effective, respectful liaison for guests seeking to access services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide reliable, dependable, punctual coverage of the Rosie’s Place front office via the front desk.

• Answer doors. Greet guests and visitors at the main entrance and create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere.

• Handle all incoming telephone calls. Transfer calls to staff and take phone messages for guests.

• Handle all incoming mail and packages. Sort and file guest mail everyday and make sure packages go to where they belong.

• Oversee the use of guest telephone, computer, laundry and showers.

• Copy, fax and send out mail for guests.

• Maintain all front desk printed material and bulletin boards.

• Assist donors with incoming donations.

• Manage the guest daily services calendar/schedule. Keep track of all daily services.

• Stock hygiene cabinet with toiletries, towels, laundry soap, undergarments and socks.

• Wash towels for guest showers.

• Consistently monitor all guest areas and resolve conflicts in a respectful manner to maintain a peaceful environment.

• Respond to all guest emergencies in an efficient and safe manner and follow all emergency protocols.

• Write in the log every day and consistently communicate with staff through email.

• Additional duties as assigned by the Front Office Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Fluency in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole strongly preferred.

• Must be reliable.

• Good written, verbal and computer skills.

• Ability to handle multiple tasks at once.

• Comfortable dealing with diverse groups of people.

• Adaptable, able to cope with stress, quick thinking and energetic.

• Experience working with poor and/or homeless people preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Day to day work includes lifting, cleaning, sorting as well as interaction with staff and guests. Individuals must be physically able to safely lift 20lbs, reach, bend and stoop and move around quickly.

Work Expectations during the COVID-19 Pandemic:

This position is full-time, on site, following all safety protocols including mask wearing and keeping at least 6 feet of distance between people. All employees of Rosie’s Place are responsible for getting tested regularly for COVID and following all other safety guidelines we may require.

REPORTS TO: Front Office Manager

SALARY: $20-$23 per hour

HOURS:

Immediately: Saturday & Sunday, 9:30am-3:00pm; Monday-Wednesday, 7am-3pm

Starting June 1: Saturday & Sunday, 9:00am-5:00pm; Monday-Wednesday,11-7pm
