Title: Digital Marketing Manager

Reports to: Chief Development Officer

Starting Salary Range: $60k - $75k depending on experience


Location: Remote

The Opportunity:  The Digital Marketing Manager position focuses on delivering excellent and engaging content distributed through various channels: our website, social media, different email marketing channels, and blogs. In this role, strong project management and a passion for compelling content that grows engagement are essential. They will gather content from a variety of subject experts, manage our social media and newsletter, oversee the execution of content in support of all programs and develop it to match the voice and tone of the Drupal Association. They will ensure the content is appropriately distributed in the channels that align with our marketing strategy and collaborate with consultants/external partners to develop essential collateral.


Overview of Drupal Association:  Drupal is the open-source digital experience platform utilized by millions of people and organizations worldwide, made possible by a community of over 100,000 contributors and enabling more than 1.3 million users on Drupal.org. The Drupal Association is a non-profit organization focused on accelerating Drupal, fostering the growth of the Drupal community, and supporting the project’s vision to create a safe, secure, and open web for everyone.


Our current work organizes around Strategic Focus Areas: 

  • Drive rapid innovation by accelerating Drupal project contribution 
  • Educate about Drupal by engaging and supporting a broad network of existing and potential Drupal users 
  • Cultivate talent by actively recruiting and retaining new people to the project with an emphasis on increasing diversity
  • Increase project and organizational capacity through a strategic contribution framework
  • Diversify funding opportunities for sustainability and growth

Elements of the Role:


General Communications and Engagement:

  • Liaise with Promote Drupal (a community volunteer group that helps build awareness for Drupal the product)
  • Source and provide content for the community developed weekly newsletter: The Weekly Drop
  • Monitor the world of open-source and Drupal for vital information to share with the community
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the organization’s editorial calendar 
  • Project manage to ensure editorial and visual collateral are developed and approved following the editorial calendar
  • Project manage and execute the Drupal Association newsletters and work with the Marketing Content Producer to ensure appropriate distribution via Mailchimp (email platform)
  • Review content to ensure consistency with the voice and tone of the Drupal Association 
  • Collaborate with external design consultants and the Marketing Content Coordinator to develop collateral for Drupal Association programs (including DrupalCon, our annual conference)
  • Develop Google Ads through use of Google Ad Grants
  • Develop press releases in collaboration with the external writing consultant and manage distribution
  • Approve any GDPR data protection statements attached to communications such as emails and letters
  • Elevate any data protection queries from journalists or media outlets like newspapers to the Executive Director
  • Where necessary, work with other staff to ensure marketing initiatives abide by data protection principles
  • Develop and execute surveys as needed in support of programs

Event Marketing:

  • Assist in recruiting the annual DrupalCon Marketing committee
  • Project manage the DrupalCon Marketing committee (recruited yearly)
  • Liaise with DrupalCon Europe event production team to support successful event marketing
  • Drive the DrupalCon North America marketing plan under the direction of the Chief Development Officer


Social Media:

  • Develop and implement strategies for increasing social media presence and engagement
  • Develop and execute social media posts using Drupal Association voice and tone for various channels and platforms for approval drawing from content experts and program leads with a mindset of building more engagement
  • Schedule social media posts using our social media tool (currently Hootsuite)
  • Analyze key metrics and traffic patterns dashboards to measure impact and increase engagement
  • Develop ads for social media in support of programs in collaboration with the Digital Marketing Content Coordinator
  • Manage the Drupal Association YouTube account
  • Develop short videos to support outreach on social media channels
  • Collaborate with Sales Operations to ensure fulfillment of any relevant social media sponsor benefits

Management:

  • Manage and mentor the Digital Marketing Content Producer position ensuring content is produced according to brand guidelines



Candidate Qualities

  • 3+ years experience in a related communications role
  • Experience directly managing or mentoring 
  • Proactive and highly motivated, able to work independently without frequent, in-person oversight
  • Ability to write in the Drupal Association voice and tone
  • Strong interpersonal and listening skills, with sensitivity and appreciation for diverse viewpoints and various communication styles
  • Ability to manage several tasks and competing priorities in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Flexibility, collaborative impulse, and humor
  • Ability to develop images or graphic layouts following brand guidelines for use in social media (not required, but highly desirable)
  • Strong project management skills
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (not required, but highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of Google applications (Google sheets, Google Docs, Google Presentations)
  • Knowledge of Mailchimp or similar 
  • Knowledge of Hootesuite or similar social media scheduling platform


Location and travel

  • Remote work: We are a globally distributed team, but employees must overlap a minimum of 4 work hours per day with standard working hours in the Eastern Standard time zone.
  • Requires some travel throughout the year for major events as well as donor meetings and staff retreats


Position Type

This position is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Chief Development Officer.
