Summer Geometry Instructor
Dunbar Senior High School
101 N Street NW
District of Columbia
Each summer, District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) gives permission to Resources to Inspire Students and Educators (RISE, formerly RICH) to run summer math classes to help motivated students from the inner city to accelerate in math.
This summer, RISE will run a geometry class at Dunbar High School. The students will be bright and motivated, and class size will be small, approximately 15 students. The syllabus will be designed by DCPS in accordance with the Common Core standards.
The class will run from 9 am - 2:30 pm each day, from June 25 - July 27, except for July 4. The students and teacher will have a half hour break for lunch from 12-12:30. The pay will be $250/day, or $6000 for the summer.
The class coincides with the Mayor's Summer Youth Employment Plan (SYEP), which pays $5.25 per hour depending on the student's age. RISE will supplement each student's salary so that each student gets paid $7/hour.
Interested candidates should have at least five years experience teaching mathematics in a school setting.
