The ReAL Edgemere Community Land Trust (CLT) is a resident-led community organization in
the Edgemere neighborhood of the Rockaway peninsula. The CLT works to support the
revitalization of a marginalized community of color through the development of affordable housing and programming of land. The CLT will own, develop and manage land in order to create a just, equitable and resilient Edgemere, and will use grassroots methods to plan and develop housing, open-spaces, and amenities to cultivate economic, ecological, and cultural vibrancy.
The CLT is currently run on volunteer labor from a very dedicated Board that consists of seven
local community members and two technical advisors, and we are now looking to hire the
organization’s first staff member. We are looking for a person who loves a challenge, and who is
excited about the prospect of building a new organization dedicated to building a more just and
climate-resilient Edgemere.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Work with the CLT board, development partners, community partners, and community
residents to implement CLT projects;
● Manage all fiscal and administrative activities of the CLT, and create organizational systems
to facilitate the work of the CLT;
● Assist with fundraising, contract reporting, and managing continuous communication and
relationship with donors and partners;
● Promote resident participation and develops trainings on various aspects of the project in
conjunction with developers to expand resident participation in decision making;
● Engage with elected officials, city agencies, local community boards, and allies to develop
support for projects.
● Increase visibility and support of the CLT throughout our catchment area and city-wide;
● Participate in the growing citywide CLT movement;
● Attend meetings, conferences, and other events on behalf of the CLT;
● Educate residents and community stakeholders about the CLT model;
● Manage updates and content for websites, emails, and social media;
● Update, create and distribute educational materials to ensure cultural and language relevance;
and
● Supervise staff and volunteers, including but not limited to organizers and administrative
staff and;
● Hybrid work environment, with ability to travel frequently to Edgemere, NY.
● A combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected
to provide the job-related competencies noted, such as:
○ Bachelor's degree; and at least two (2) years of progressively responsible work in
Affordable Housing, Public Housing Advocacy, Community Planning,
Community Development, Co-op Housing, or any other relevant housing
experience; or
○ Any other comparable combination of relevant experience.
● Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in community development project management.
● Proven ability to organize and manage multiple projects with diverse and numerous
public and private partners.
● Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and oral, and ability to
work within a culturally diverse community.
● A passion for active community engagement and outreach; some community engagement
experience required, managerial experience preferred.
● Familiarity with non-profit fundraising, including both public and private sources.
● Ability to travel locally and work occasional evenings and weekends.
● Proficiency in Social Media, Microsoft and Google Suites.
● Preferred but not required: Familiarity with the Community Land Trust model,
community development and grants management. in Planning, Public Administration,
Human Services, or other related field
