PROGRAM:  Supported Education

 

HOURS:          Part-time 20 hours per week, flexible weekdays

                       between 9 am & 4 pm; 10-month position Sept - June

        

JOB DESCRIPTION  

Supported education is an on-campus service for newly admitted and continuing college students living with serious mental illness who would benefit from individual support to manage the many academic and social demands and challenges of college life. The purpose of the program is to help students maintain academic progress and achieve education goals. The Guidance Center of Westchester Supported Education Specialist works at the campus of each of our 5 partner colleges one day a week. Specific functions of the supported education specialist include:

·        assess individual academic and wellness management needs

·        develop service plans to address students’ specific needs

·        coordinate services with counseling, disability, academic support, etc.

·        arrange with faculty for reasonable accommodations

·        assist with registration, financial aid, study, organizational, coping, and problem-solving skills  

·        provide family psychoeducation,

·        refer as needed to community resources

·        outreach to campus communities to raise awareness

·        complete required documentation and reports

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in education, guidance, psychology, mental health, social work or similar. Mnimum of 3 years  experience in relevant post-graduate school positions. A professional license (LMHC, LMSW, LCSW) is a plus. Candidates must be able to articulate a commitment to recovery-oriented, strength-based approaches and must have basic knowledge of psychiatric disabilities.  Candidates must be able to write and speak well, be flexible, work independently with excellent judgment and initiative, engage easily with students, use computer software. The position requires use of one’s own car, and knowledge of Westchester County resources. A laptop and cell phone will be provided.
