Position Title: Cultural Program Associate, Meridian Center for Cultural Diplomacy

Location: Washington, D.C.

Reports To: Director of Cultural Programs

Purpose and Description

The Cultural Programs Associate works under the supervision of a Director of Cultural Programs as part of a four-person team developing exhibitions, implementing the Department of State’s Next Level Hip Hop Collaboration program, and other cultural exchange programs. Responsible for conducting archival research, writing, contacting lending institutions, supporting government contracts, administrative and logistical arrangements for exchange programs, and assisting with financial and grant reporting.


Essential Functions

·       Supports exhibition development, including research at the National Archives, Library of Congress, and other archival collections, for current and future exhibitions

·         Works with lenders to obtain rights for all works used in Meridian exhibitions

·         Works closely with host venues domestically and abroad to collect data/press materials regarding Meridian’s traveling exhibitions

·       Manages, disburses, tracks and reconciles authorized funds such as per diem, cultural allowance, ground transportation, and travel advances for cultural exchange programs

·       Arranges program logistics, including domestic flights, accommodations, ground transportation, cultural events, and group enhancements while staying within budget limits

·       Promptly pays bills, reconciles monthly credit card statements, and processes travel expense reimbursements

·       Generates reports for grants and other contracts

·       Researches and provides written materials for business development opportunities, such as U.S. and foreign government and private sector proposals

·       Provides and maintains MCCD content for Meridian and programs’ websites, blogs and social media accounts

·       Supervises MCCD interns

·       Works closely with the Center for Diplomatic Engagement and Events divisions on MCCD cultural programs

·       Provides written materials as needed to the Communications and Development divisions, such as information for grant applications and other fund-raising initiatives, as well as web articles

Other duties and special projects as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

Experience/Education

Master’s degree in art history, museum studies, or equivalent knowledge from work experience in related fields; or any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
