The Educational Video Center’s New Media Arts Program (NMA) is designed to teach high school students to use both emerging and industry-standard digital media software applications by creating a website about a social justice issue of relevance to them. The program is designed to provide students with alternative high school credentials and job readiness in order to open up postsecondary pathways.

 

The Educational Video Center (www.evc.org) is an award-winning non-profit youth media organization dedicated to teaching documentary video and other media projects as a means to develop the artistic, critical literacy, and career skills of young people, while nurturing their idealism and commitment to social change. 


As NMA Assistant Director, you will take a co-leadership role by supporting the coordination, planning, administration, assessment and improvement of EVC’s New Media Arts programs.  


Major responsibilities include:

  • Co-create curriculum grounded in EVC’s learner-centered, project-based curriculum 
  • Co-support instructors to ensure the highest quality implementation of EVC’s curriculum
  • Co-create professional development workshops
  • Co-plan and co-orchestrate events 
  • Co-teach, when necessary
  • Attend to administrative tasks
  • Co-foster positive relationships with key partner organizations
  • Participate in student portfolio presentations to assess student knowledge and skill development through portfolio and digital portfolios

Skills 

The ideal candidate will be proficient in the following areas: curriculum and instructional design (ideally in student-centered, culturally relevant critical pedagogy), extensive experience and authentically enjoys working with high school-aged youth (specifically from historically under-resourced communities), understanding of principles of positive youth development, experience in grassroots social justice work/activism, experience with media project management, strong planning and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, capacity to work independently and as part of a team, flexibility, resourcefulness and a sense of humor, and enjoys a horizontal work structure. Bachelor’s Degree or higher, from an accredited college or university.
