Reports to:  Senior Director of Government Programs and Affairs


Classification: Full-time, Non-exempt position. 35 hours per week. Position may require evening and weekend hours, as necessary. 

 

Position Summary: The Government Programs and Affairs Associate will provide support to the department and manage special projects in furtherance of The Center’s government relations and advocacy goals. The Associate supports a diverse portfolio of programming, ranging from coordination of statewide advocacy and community building events, to direct client support through social services programs. We are seeking a goal-oriented, organized, energetic and talented individual. The ideal candidates will have a passion for problem-solving, strong administrative and project management skills and will thrive in a fast-paced environment. 

 

Principle Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Ensure strategic administrative coordination of the programs of the department, including clerical duties such as answering phones, processing mail, sending emails, scheduling meetings, notetaking, and the development and creation of data and reporting systems for data collection and dissemination 
  • Prepare and modify documents for all programs, including correspondence, reports, drafts and emails
  • Assist in the planning and execution of multiple events, stakeholder meetings and conferences across all programs, including the booking of venues, catering, travel, accommodations, and negotiations with vendors 
  • Work with team members in the preparation and assembly of materials for meetings and tours; develop and implement systems to streamline administrative processes across team with a focus on continual improvement 
  • Serve as project manager for government grant applications, including preparing and compiling all components for each grant submission, internal meeting coordination, notetaking and follow up with staff and external consultants
  • Support the Senior Director in developing and maintaining relationships with government officials, community leaders and other key stakeholders across the State to support the programs of the department and The Center 
  • Attend events, trainings, webinars on an ad hoc basis to represent The Center 
  • As needed, manage short-term projects identified by the Senior Director or other leadership
  • Other duties as assigned


Position requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; minimum three years of experience working in nonprofit organization or social services agency
  • Strong proficiency with research, data collection, review, analysis, documentation and reporting applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and databases such as Salesforce
  • Exceptional organizational and communications skills
  • Ability to think laterally and innovatively to develop solutions 
  • Team player, with a willingness to lead and initiate; a self-starter 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, time management skills, and ability to manage multiple projects at once while remaining attentive to detail 
  • Demonstrated ability to be a productive member of a community of people at work, respecting differences while working toward shared goals, comfort with periods of ambiguity, and constructive participation in ongoing organizational and department development
  • Proficiency and demonstrated skill with research
  • Event planning experience a plus 
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with an ability to interact with a wide range of personalities, including a diverse group of community members with respect and tact
  • Willingness to travel as needed
