The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice seeks a highly motivated individual to join our team as Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach.

Reporting to the Center’s directors, the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach will set and guide the strategy for all outreach and communications to develop and consistently articulate the Center for Human Rights and Global Justice’s (CHRGJ) mission. The Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach will ensure that CHRGJ is viewed as the primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information (primarily through digital educational content) at the intersection of human rights scholarship and practice. The Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach will work closely with the Center’s directors to establish and engage a robust network of partner organizations and alumni, as well as communities of practice.

Responsibilities

Strategic Initiatives

Build a network of CHRGJ alumni

Build a library of online, multimedia educational materials that can be used for asynchronous and stand-alone human rights training

Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among CHRGJ’s program areas, including partner organizations.

Establish a network of media contacts to build public awareness of CHRGJ’s mission and outputs

Outreach

Develop and implement a comprehensive and strategic outreach plan across CHRGJ’s discreet audiences in collaboration with the directors and relevant program teams

Translate the knowledge and ideas that come out of CHRGJ’s projects into shareable and accessible multimedia educational materials

Lead the generation of online content that engages audience segments and leads to measurable action. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate

Put vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness disseminating information about CHRGJ’s activities

Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, annual reports, and CHRGJ’s website

Coordinate webpage content—ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly

Events Management

Plan and execute strategic events that align with CHRGJ’s mission

Qualifications

CHRGJ is seeking an accomplished Director of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach who has at least 5 years of experience with strategic communications and or partnership building, ideally in an “in-house” leadership role within a complex (number and variety of constituents) nonprofit entity. The ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages and disseminate it to the right audiences through the best distribution channels is critical.

Specific requirements include:

Highly collaborative style; experience developing and implementing communications and network-building strategies

Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills

Experience with and knowledge of producing multimedia materials, particularly in an academic setting

A strong track record as an implementer who thrives on managing a variety of key initiatives concurrently

Relationship builder with the flexibility and finesse to “manage by influence”

High energy, maturity, and leadership with the ability to serve as a unifying force and to position discussions at both the strategic and tactical levels

Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, partner organizations, directors, program participants, and other supporters

Self-starter, able to work independently, and entrepreneurial; enjoys creating and implementing new initiatives
