Job Description: The Bilingual Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is a member of the Inclusion team. This position is responsible for providing diagnostic assessments, therapy, intervention, and extended year services; collaborating with teachers, students and families; and carrying out the school’s vision of inclusion. This position has no direct reports. The SLP reports to the Special Education and Inclusion Director.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide speech and language therapy that address goals for students as indicated per their Individual Education Plans
  • Provide and complete comprehensive diagnostic assessments of speech, voice, and language impairments in a timely manner; and determines the presence/absence of a specific communication disorder which adversely impacts academic progress
  • Provide intervention to students through Response to Intervention
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary team meetings and fulfill responsibilities of presenting progress summaries on present levels of performance, and proposed IEP goals
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
  • Assist in the proper referrals of students to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  • Keep thorough and timely records for each student receiving therapy or other school provided speech-language services
  • Collaborate with general and special education teachers to support students achieving IEP goals
  • Hold high expectations for each student
  • Create and foster a positive learning environment
  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
  • Collaborate with parents; provide resources and information for families
  • Attend pre-planned evening events throughout the year such as APTT, Expo, Flamboyan family visits, etc.
  • Encouraged to attend at least one family event a year such as orientation, prospective parent info sessions, family potlucks, etc.
  • Provide ESY services in Mundo Verde’s summer program for an additional stipend

Qualifications of an Ideal Candidate


  • Advanced or native proficiency of English and Spanish
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology
  • 2+ years of experience in an elementary school setting
  • Commitment to principles of language immersion, sustainability and inquiry-based learning


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in speech pathology or communication sciences
  • 3+ years as a Speech and Language Pathologist
  • Experience / strength in phonemic awareness and reading remediation


  • Previous work in a school setting, preferably charter
  • Demonstrated capacity to collaborate deeply
  • Understanding the different levels of age-appropriate student development
  • Growth mindset
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development

  • Required to provide ESY services during the summer program for an additional stipend or to secure an approved SLP to cover these summer hours
