    Description

Public Media Journalists Association | Fully Remote | $65,000

    About PMJA

For 40 years, Public Media Journalists Association has been the only organization focused exclusively on journalism in public media. We're a member organization of public media newsrooms representing over 2,000 public media journalists across the country—reporters, editors, producers, and newsroom leaders who are doing some of the most important storytelling work in America.

We exist to help them get better at what they do, connect with each other, and navigate an industry that's constantly evolving.

    What We Need

Public media journalism is changing fast. Technology is transforming how newsrooms work. Funding models are shifting. And the next generation of journalists needs different support than the last.

We need someone who gets that—and can help us respond to it.

You'll design and manage learning experiences that actually matter to working journalists. Programs that help people stay ahead of industry shifts, build real skills, and connect with peers who get what they're going through.

You'll work directly with our Executive Director and Chief Experience Officer as part of a 3-person team to shape what professional development looks like in public media.

    What You'll Actually Do

    Build learning programs that work

    • Design workshops, webinars, and online courses that help journalists grow their skills and navigate industry changes
    • Find great trainers and subject matter experts who can actually teach
    • Create learning experiences that stick—not just during the session, but before and after through smart follow-up

    Manage our content ecosystem

    • Organize our library of recordings and archives so people can actually find and use them
    • Recut existing content to meet new learning needs
    • Turn conference sessions into ongoing resources

    Lead conference learning

    • Coordinate speakers and breakout sessions for our annual conference
    • Work with our board and committees to shape programming that delivers real value

    Build community

    • Manage our ongoing virtual meet-ups where journalists connect and learn from each other
    • Create career pathing resources that help people see their next steps
    • Keep your finger on the pulse of what's happening in the field

    Think strategically

    • Track what's working (and what's not) and adjust accordingly
    • Help us figure out how to generate revenue without pricing people out
    • Spot emerging trends and help us stay responsive

    Who You Are

    You have:

    • Experience designing and delivering professional development programs (you understand how adults actually learn)
    • Some connection to journalism or public media—or at least deep curiosity about it
    • Strong project management skills and comfort with learning management systems (LMS), collaboration tools, and adapting to new technology platforms

    You are:

    • Self-directed and resourceful—you figure things out without needing step-by-step instructions, but you're smart about asking for help when you need it
    • A builder who also improves what exists—you see opportunities to make things better
    • Connected to (or genuinely curious about) what emerging journalists need
    • Great with people—you build real relationships, not transactional ones
    • Someone who thrives when given both structure and flexibility

    You're excited about:

    • Working on a team where everything is a team sport (we're supportive with excellent onboarding)
    • Having your ideas shape the organization from day one
    • Making a real impact on journalism that matters

    The Details

This is a full-time, fully remote position with a flexible schedule. You'll need to be available weekdays from noon-5pm Eastern (that's when trainings and meetings happen). You'll travel about 3 weeks annually for conferences and retreats.

Salary: $65,000 (non-negotiable—we believe in pay transparency and equity)

    Benefits:

    • Unlimited PTO
    • Health reimbursement account
    • Semi-annual retirement contributions (SEP)
    • Home technology expense support

    What Won't Work

If you need highly structured direction for every task, this isn't the right fit. If you're looking for part-time work, this role requires full-time commitment.

But if you want to help shape the future of journalism training, work with a team that actually supports you, and build something that matters—let's talk.

    Benefits

    • Unlimited PTO
    • Health reimbursement account
    • Semi-annual retirement contributions (SEP)
    • Home technology expense support
