Position Summary: 

Red Oak is a licensed school-age child care program which provides care for to over 100 children in Chinatown and neighboring communities. Red Oak provides after school learning opportunities, including homework help, arts, literacy and recreational opportunities. Red Oak is open after school and full days during school vacations, summer and Boston Public School professional days. 

Reporting to the Director of Childcare Services, the Red Oak After School Program Director is responsible for maintaining the daily operations of the program, supervision of program and administrative staff, volunteers and all aspects of program development. S/he is responsible for staff development and supervision; program planning; curriculum design, ensuring conformity to state and local regulatory requirements; family engagement and record keeping and reporting. S/he works with family services to develop and implement parent services. S/he maintains positive relationships with the public schools and Boston Centers for Youth and Families (BCYF). The position is available after July 10th.

Responsibilities:

·        Design and implement educational and enrichment activities that are developmentally appropriate for school age children; implement behavior management systems that supports a positive learning environment; ensure curriculum supports extended learning in basic skills and reflects the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks

·        Hire, train, supervise and evaluate group leaders in Red Oak after-school and summer program. Design and maintain staffing patterns in accordance with EEC regulations.

·        Organize and maintain teaching resources; ensure data collection and maintenance; oversee EEC required staff and student records, respond to specific tasks while maintaining overall awareness of all program issues.

·        Develop and monitor budget; track expenses; oversee contracts and grants; report to funders

·        Participate in management team meetings, out-of-school network meetings, and partnership meetings; represent and advocate for program/agency in provider, community, and funding networks; other duties as required.

·        In partnership with Family Services develop and maintain parent services including, orientation, facilitation of a parent advisory, planning parent educational workshops and events and meeting with parents when there are concerns.                

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education and/or related field
  • One to three years of experience administering an out of school program
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; and strong organizing skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to connect and build positive relationships with parents, staff, community partners, schools, BCYF and stakeholders
  • Capacity to work well independently and take initiative as well as to collaborate with colleagues
  • Has experience with behavior management systems, positive children development, curriculum development and leading activities with children. 
  • Familiarity with Early Education and Care (EEC) regulations and policies
  • Experience with data systems, outcome measurement, and evaluation
  • Proficiency in Windows environment and MS Office
  • Flexibility to work some nights


Skills and Experience Preferred:

  • QRIS level two requirements: Child Development Associate (CDA) and/or National Administration Credential (NAC) certifications
  • Bilingual English/Cantonese or English/Mandarin written and speaking skills
  • Knowledge of Boston’s Chinatown community and immigrant communities is a plus.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS (with or without accommodation) Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, finger, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and be capable of repetitive motion Position requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly Work requires close visual acuity Position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
