We provide comprehensive fiscal sponsor services to emerging and transitioning charitable groups (“Project”) serving their communities in areas as varied as education, arts, human services, and public health. 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: As part of the Management Team, the Program Manager I will help create a cohesive, engaged, and collaborative work culture by adhering to and promoting CNDC’s values. The Program Manager I will manage the Project application, selection, and onboarding process, serve as a Projects’ point of contact at CNDC, and provide input on the fiscal sponsor program’s effectiveness. This position works closely with all of CNDC’s Projects to provide coaching in nonprofit management best practices. The Program Manager I responds to Projects’ and pre-applicants’ requests in a timely manner and works closely with the Vice President to ensure Projects’ compliance with legal and financial requirements.  


Project Selection and Onboarding:

·        Manage Project application and selection process from inquiry to approval

·        Respond to Project Pre-applicants and answer initial questions about the fiscal sponsor program and services

·        Lead new Project Director Orientations, facilitate Project Selection Committee meetings, and lead Projects through the onboarding process

Project Development and Support:

·        With Program Team, coach and advise Project directors and Project boards on nonprofit management issues to promote the success of their organization, through regular check-in’s, workshops, and trainings

·        Ensure that Projects have the nonprofit management tools available to effectively manage Project operations

Risk Management and Compliance:

·        Work with the Vice President to ensure that Projects comply with legal, regulatory, financial, and liability policies, regulations, and best practices

·        Ensure that Projects’ property and programming are properly insured

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Actively participate and collaborate as a member of the Management Team

·        Hire, supervise, motivate, and develop direct reports

·        Monitor and evaluate staff performance and create performance improvement plans as needed

·        Participate in organizational planning

·        Develop and maintain departmental procedures

·        Identify and recommend improvements to CNDC’s operations

·        Develop and monitor budget for area of responsibility

·        Attend two Project events annually


·        Actively participate and engage as part of CNDC’s staff and various work groups

·        Provide back-up and assistance for other staff as needed

·        Approach communication with Projects, staff, and other stakeholders with a focus on empathy and maintaining and improving relationships

·        Respond to Project needs and requests for information

·        Maintain professional standards of performance, demeanor, and appearance appropriately acting as a “role model” both at and away from CNDC

·        Exercise discretion and professional judgment; act with honesty and integrity

·        Actively strive to create and maintain an inclusive and appropriate environment through communication and interaction that demonstrates respect

·        Maintain a creative, team-building approach to job performance and seek to bring a constructive, problem solving orientation to all tasks

·        While complying with CNDC policies and standards, perform all tasks and responsibilities with attention to detail and in a complete and timely manner

·        Actively seek training, experience, and information to remain current and to grow skills and knowledge in field of work

·        Bachelor’s degree in public administration or equivalent training and experience

·        Minimum five years’ experience in the nonprofit sector in program fundraising or project coordination

·        Experience with grant research, submittal, and management

·        Familiarity with insurance

·        Exceptionally skilled in written and verbal communication, organization, attention to detail and ability to prioritize

·        Ability to think critically and strategically

·        Ability to communicate technical and financial information to individuals without a financial background

·        Excellent analytical and problem solving skills

·        Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with interruptions in a busy office environment

·        Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and staff, as well as funders, vendors, and other stakeholders, both verbally and in writing

·        Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

·        Prior experience developing and monitoring organizational and departmental procedures

·        Deadline driven work ethic

·        Ability to work independently and as part of a team


·        Prior management experience

·        Experience creating and delivering presentations

POSITION TYPE/WORK SCHEDULE: This is a full-time exempt position, requiring occasional evening and weekend work and the ability to be flexible and responsive to emergent needs of CNDC.
