We are committed to providing fair wages and employment opportunities to low-income artisans, which will result in creating sustainable markets for their products. 

Artistic Director

Sharing the Dream in Guatemala is looking to grow our Artisan Development program and create sustainability in the organization, and we are hiring an Artistic Director. This new position is responsible for overseeing the artistic aspects of the Guatemalan organization, including providing supervision and support for the Artisan Development team and artisan groups.  This position requires a mix of creativity, technical skills, and strong leadership ability. 

Responsibilities include:

Artisan groups

  1. Work closely with the Artisan Development coordinator and artisan groups to ensure that the artisans are developing new skills and abilities through workshops, field work, meetings, and product orders.
  2. Oversee the design and ordering process.
  3. Responsible for packing and shipping product orders.
  4. Help to find new artisan groups and assist the AD coordinator in evaluating and working with new groups.  

Leadership, Supervision, Administration

  1. Provide leadership and support for the AD team and the Elder Center Bead Group. 
  2. Work with Executive Director and AD coordinator to create a five-year plan and update goals yearly. Work with AD coordinator on yearly artisan goals. Do monthly planning and evaluation with the AD team. Meet with the AD team to do weekly work plans. 

Commercialization and Marketing

  1. Lead the wholesale project by finding new clients, corresponding with existing clients, and doing promotion and publicity for the project.
  2. Take quality photographs of products for wholesale catalogs and website and retail website and keep documents and websites updated. 
  3. Assist with social media and publicity for the Artisan Development program and bead group.
  4. Help to plan and work at sales, pop up shops, and events for the Artisan Development Program and Bead Group. Look for new sales opportunities. 

Reports to Executive Director. Works closely with the Program and Operations Director. Supervises the Artisan Development team.  

Desired qualifications:

-         Strong leadership skills

-         The ability to be creativity and come up with new ideas

-         A positive attitude and enthusiasm

-         A self-starter

-         Good photography skills

-         Excellent computer and social media skills with preferred experience working with websites

-         Good communication skills

-         Organized with excellent follow-through

-         Knowledge of fair trade principles

-         Knowledge of trends, color combinations, and the US market

-         Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership position

-         Experience working in nonprofits

-         Understanding of Guatemalan culture

-         Preferred experience working with fair trade

Education: Minimum 4 year degree
