THE POSITION: 

The Association for Neighborhood & Housing Development (ANHD) is a member-association of over/nearly 100 neighborhood-based affordable housing and community development groups fighting for more just and equitable affordable housing development and preservation, tenant protection, and equitable economic development policies in New York City. ANHD is seeking a Director of Capacity Building to oversee our programs that provide direct capacity-building support to our members engaged in community organizing. ANHD has an open, supportive and team oriented work environment. RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Director will oversee all aspects of the Center for Community Leadership (CCL), a sector-leading program which provides deep, multi-layered support to strengthen community organizing in New York City by training cohorts of community organizers. CCL is the only organizing training program of its kind in NYC, and has a successful 10-year history. The director will ensure the CCL program is intellectually rigorous and also has a strong sense of community and connectedness. The Director will be responsible for managing the current program, as well as developing new program elements that will engage current and former program participants, including:

  • Supervising staff and training consultants.
  • Overseeing recruitment and selection processes for our annual training cohorts.
  • Managing curriculum design and monitoring course content for all programs.
  • Managing relationships with key partners and stakeholders including funders and city Elected officials.
  • Supervising CCL communications , outreach and marketing material 

 The Director will also support ANHD’s general organizing capacity building efforts on behalf of our members, including:

  • Incorporating capacity building into ANHD’s general campaign work.
  • Coordinating the organizing content of ANHD’s general training series. 
  • Support ANHD’s overall efforts to support ANHD member groups to develop effective local campaigns.
  • Support ANHD’s annual policy platform process and other campaign-related support, as needed.

The Director will also play a key role in ANHD’s ongoing strategic planning & internal infrastructure building, including:

  • Working with the executive director and staff leadership team to plan and implement ongoing strategic planning processes, as well as internal equity and capacity-building initiatives.
  • Supporting other internal capacity-building initiatives, such as revising ANHD’s supervision models and structures and staff development practices.
  • Evaluating and coordinating ANHD’s member engagement practices to fully align them with ANHD’s mission. 

Required QUALIFICATIONS: 

  •  A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in leadership development, training, community development or related fields.
  • An interest in community building.
  • Passion for social justice work.
  • Experience with event planning.
  • Experience working directly with community organizations and/or community based campaigns
  • Commitment to New York City’s neighborhoods and respect for community organizing and grassroots organizations.
  • Supervision experience
  • Significant training experience
  • Strong program management skills
  • Skilled at Funder relationship building
  • Desired: Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field.
