The Reece School, a prestigious non-profit special education elementary school for children (ages 5 to 13) with
complex developmental delays, is seeking an adaptive physical education teacher for their (July 1st -August 10th) summer school program.
Position is responsible for facilitating physical education classes by performing the following duties:
Planning and coordinating structured physical activity classes including specific child activities and themes, taking child safety into consideration. Facilitating scheduled physical activity classes for a variety of children's age group by leading and participating in activities; operating tape players and preparing children for departures. Setting up activity rooms for classes by cleaning, moving equipment, and retrieving specific activity props. Reviewing activity plans with others on a regular basis. Providing feedback regarding class enrollment and related class details to directors on a regular basis; monitoring the general business climate and making necessary adjustments. Ensuring attendance is taken and maintaining completed roster sheets in an organized manner. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Experience as a physical education teacher or previous recreation experience in a school setting. A Bachelor degree in Physical Education or related field. APE certification preferred. Reading, verbal, and written communications skills required. Prior classroom experience with children with special needs desirable. The ability to organize and plan work assignments in a timely manner necessary. Strong interpersonal, verbal and written skills a must.
